Brief Description:


We're looking for
Senior Ergonomics Specialist with a deep understanding of ergonomics integration on major projects and a consistent track record of delivering excellence in human-centred innovation for a
Permanent opportunity based in
Milton Keynes.

Other locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.


You will be required to provide professional ergonomics expertise in the development and implementation of company ergonomics policy, standards, and competence, focussing on the efficient achievement of Network Rail's goals and manage the specialist ergonomics input to major projects, system developments and process improvements.


About the role (External):


Network Rail's Ergonomics and Human Factors team works to optimise the safety and performance of people's interaction with the railway.

An opportunity to join the team is currently available for an individual who can demonstrate proven success in using ergonomics principles and techniques to solve complex problems in safety-critical business environments.

  • Provide ergonomics expertise, support and advice to improve human performance and reliability relating to tasks that are critical to the operation and maintenance of the rail network.
  • Assess emergent ergonomics and human factors issues and, in conjunction with relevant stakeholders, take the necessary actions to ensure that risks are reduced, controlled or eliminated.
  • Provide expert advice on, and analysis of, human contributions to accidents, incidents and other operational events, in order to identify and implement sociotechnical system improvements.
  • Lead the management and assurance of external ergonomics suppliers, negotiating as required so that the appropriate levels of value and professional service are provided to Network Rail.
  • Embed humancentred design principles through the contribution of expert technical input to policy, standards, requirements, specifications and operational processes.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (or other equivalent human factors body) or Member of the British Psychological Society
  • Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with frontline staff through to senior management
  • Project management experience

Vacancy type: Permanent, full time.

Location: Location: Milton Keynes, you need to live within 90 minutes travel from this office or be willing to relocate in order to meet this requirement. Other locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Interviews will be held in May 2023 (note that this may change according to business needs).

Band & salary: 3C (£53,202 - £59,853) per annum, depending upon experience, plus benefits (see below).
