Description

We are seeking a passionate
Access & Inclusion Advisor who will provide outstanding support to students with a range of disabilities, learning difficulties and/or medical conditions across the college, ensuring students are given the opportunities to succeed.

Our
Access & Inclusion Advisors are responsible for a caseload of students and for advising on a range of strategies to support curriculum colleagues to effectively support students within the classroom environment.

Depending on the location within the structure this could be supporting Adults, Apprentices, or Higher Education students as well as those with EHC Plans or SEND on Study Programmes.


Responsibilities include:


  • Assesses need, provides recommendations on reasonable adjustments to college staff and monitors and reviews the effectiveness of support strategies put in place.
  • Offers individual support for students presenting with a diagnosis of a disability, learning difficulty and/or medical condition, including to HE students where appropriate in line with DSA-QAG guidance.
  • Supports the preparing for adulthood agenda by promoting an aspirational culture in terms of life after college, including further learning, vocational training, employment or independent living, in line with desired EHC Plan outcomes;
  • Ensures that the needs and outcomes sought on Education Health and Care (EHC) Plans are met and consults with individual students on proposed new outcomes.
  • Ensures the quality and quantity of support provided is in line with the recommendations made.
  • Offers selfhelp strategies and information, referring to appropriate agencies and liaising with College staff as necessary.
  • Provides training to teaching and support staff working with students with a range of additional needs.
  • Ensures effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • Educated to degree standard and/or currently holding a relevant professional equivalent qualification in a Disabilityrelated field

Experience

  • Considerable experience in providing learning support to students with disabilities, learning difficulties and/or medical conditions in post16 education.
  • Experience in interpreting Education Health and Care plans and other evidence to inform support plans.
  • Experience in promoting positive images of disability.
  • Experience in supporting students with complex needs.
  • Experience in delivering training.
  • Able to set and adhere to appropriate professional boundaries.
