Job summary:


Defence Support works with 60,000 personnel across the Ministry of Defence Support network, to ensure our Armed Forces are equipped to operate effectively and gain operational advantage.

Each year a third of the Defence budget is spent on Support - from moving troops, loading aircraft and refitting submarines to maintaining the engines of our armoured vehicles and refuelling them anywhere in the world.

Defence Support provides centralised oversight of this capability, ensuring the network operates effectively and delivers value for money.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


  • The postholder will support the Defence Support Training Requirements Authority team leader to:
  • Contribute to the development of MOD-wide Training and Education Policy through ensuring that policy development and compliance will drive the right outcomes for Support
  • Engage in Capability Management processes as Training and Personnel representative, ensuring the Training and Personnel are considered and cohered throughlife for new Support capabilities.
  • Chair Training Requirements Working Groups, or specific workstreams, as required.
  • Develop Support training requirements in consultation with stakeholders across Defence. This includes delivery of Training Needs Analyses and Assurance of delivery in accordance with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (Joint Services Publication
  • JSP 822).
  • Take the lead on a subset of the portfolio of Support Training, as determined in conjunction with the team leader.
  • Ensure new training requirements and associated 'competencies' are correctly captured on relevant HR and training management systems.
  • Act as secretary to senior Training and Education Governance Groups, as required.
  • Assist with the Assurance of Support Individual and Collective Training.
  • Support the review into the use of Military Task List (Joint Logistics) as a tool for Collective Training Objectivesetting and Assurance in conjunction with stakeholders and maintain, as required.
  • For your portfolio of training, oversee the Statement of Training Requirement for courses for which Defence Support is responsible. Deputise at Bi / Tri-Lateral meetings with delivery schools as required.
  • Undertake specific Support People projects in conjunction with colleagues across the Defence Support on how training will relate to, for example, Strategic Workforce Planning, Coherent Role Profiles and Skills and other Professionrelated activity.

Person specification:


We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who is curious and willing to challenge the way Training and Education is delivered in the Defence Support Function.

The individual will be a confident communicator and able to work alongside a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders at various levels to contribute to the delivery of complex change.


  • Experience of the Defence Systems Approach to Training Principles (JSP822)
  • Experience of working in a Training Requirements Authority
  • Experience in a Supportrelated discipline (Logistics, Equipment or Engineering Support)
  • Experience of individual Training Governance, Assurance and Training Needs Analysis.
  • Awareness of Collective Training Planning and Assurance
  • An understanding of Defence Capability Management processes
Individual has completed or is willing to work towards a L5 Apprenticeship in Learning and Development (or equivalent)
