Role Profile:

Parts for gasketing are manually or automatically, dependant on batch size, placed into simple jigs.

A robotically controlled nozzle follows a set program and applies a bead of PU foam to the required area of the parts.

This bead needs to be of the correct size, foam consistency and placement for the process to work. The foam is generated in the production cell using nitrogen injection and automatic mixing of the base PU material. The finished bead cures by absorbing moisture in the atmosphere.

The job involves being able to ensure the safe and timely operation of this complete cell whilst continually monitoring the output and making any machine adjustments should they be required.

The day to day running of the cell involves:

  • Liaising with production management to try and prioritise production requirements.
  • Liaising with purchasing to ensure consumables are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Replacing consumables as and when required. (Training given)
  • Selecting and locating specific product jigs for the current work being undertaken.
  • Selecting correct load / unload and gasket path programmes based on the job sheet for each batch of parts. Programmes are loaded using a barcode scanner.
  • Swapping out completed cassettes of parts from the auto load gate. This involves the use of a pallet truck.
  • When running smaller batches parts are manually loaded / unloaded from jigs through a light curtain.
  • Each morning following the PU foam production startup procedures to get the cell up and running. Doing the reverse at the end of the shift.
  • Continuously monitoring foam production quality and using intuitive methods to tweak any out of specification foam.
  • On going inspection of produced parts to ensure 100% quality leaves the production cell. Reject product to be quarantined.
  • Making minor changes to programmes as and when required. E.G., nozzle speed, height, path etc.
  • Learning how to and working with the team to generate simple nozzle paths for new products to the production cell.
Full training will be given. This may involve a 5-day training course in the midlands, with overnight stay.

This job would suit a meticulous, logical, detailed orientated person. Once trained able to work on their own initiative with little supervision. Although not essential a definite advantage would be previous experience of robot or CNC machine programming / running.
