The Lab Assistant is a key role within Bicycle Therapeutics and will enable the laboratories to function effectively.

We are looking for a team player to join the Lab & Facilities team to carry out the company's Lab Assistant duties.


You will provide general support for the scientific functions to ensure the smooth running of the biology and chemistry teams.

This involves both practical scientific works to support the function of the teams, and additional clerical and administrative work to support the company and team activities.

The Laboratory Assistant is part of the Lab Support Team and this role reports to the Senior Laboratory Technician.


Key Responsibilities
To provide practical lab support for the _Biology Teams_, acting independently to complete routine support functions:

  • Ensure glassware is collected, cleaned, and autoclaved.
  • Ensure waste is appropriately collected and disposed of via appropriate waste streams.
  • Manage requests through the ticketing system
- prioritise tasks by their importance and to plan the best strategy for completing those tasks as well as liaising directly with scientists to discuss their support requirements.

  • Checking and replenishing reagent stock levels, via the laboratory shopping lists.
  • Preparation of lab coats for laundry with an external supplier.
  • Prepare basic solutions, culture media, agar plates and buffers.
To provide practical lab support for the Chemistry Teams, acting independently to complete routine support functions.

In addition to the fundamental tasks above:

  • Carry out daily Chemistry tasks waste transfer and chemical topup and chemical inventory maintenance.


  • Compressed gases management

  • LN2 and gas cylinder maintenance.
  • Ensuring that the laboratories meet Health and Safety requirements and compliance.
  • By keeping all workspaces clean and tidy
  • Writing and adhering to basic Standard Operating Procedures
  • Maintaining lab records to a high standard
  • Ensuring all data is captured and archived according to data integrity requirements.
  • Flushing eye wash stations, water outlets and emergency showers weekly.
  • Contribute to team meetings sharing new ideas and providing constructive feedback. Act as a representative for Lab Support, protecting the teams' interests.
  • Taking a proactive approach to own professional and career development and ensuring compliance with all necessary training, by
  • Using Bicycle Tx 'Training Wheels'
  • Attending all compulsory workrelated training
  • Help support and maintain the 'Green' labs status by adhering to sustainable practices.

Qualifications Essential**:


  • Alevel or equivalent with an interest in science.
  • Able to pick up new and develop a wide range of skills.
  • Proactive with their time and seeks opportunities to improve processes to be more efficient.
  • Able to build relationships and communicate well.
  • Computer literate
  • Team player with strong motivational skills, and ability to work on own initiative and on occasions to take initiative
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills across grades and disciplines
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise between relevant options.
  • Close attention to detail and ability to anticipate and mitigate problems.
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Desire to extend responsibilities and remit

Desirable:


  • A Scientific degree or equivalent
  • Experience within a Scientific environment.
  • Competence with the MS Office suite of programmes.
