Outline of Duties

This position is a full time, 4 day week pattern.

  • Support nursery staff to deliver a flexible, high quality, stimulating education and care-centered service designed to meet the needs of young children and their families.
  • Take lead responsibility for planning and implementing curricular programmes, which meet the needs of the individual child in line with national and local policies and guidelines and quality assurance procedures.
  • Support early years practitioners to plan, assess and record information on individual children's progress in line with the Little Leapers policies and procedures particularly in the areas of health and safety, child protection and equal opportunities.
  • In liaison with early years practitioners, ensure that end of session progress reports for parents are prepared and delivered in accordance with the agreed guidelines.
  • Take a lead role in the nursery through modelling and promoting good practice; assisting early years practitioners to support children's learning, development, and well-being by ensuring developmentally appropriate play experiences and interactions.
  • Assist the Senior Leadership Team in meeting all quality standards including preparing for integrated (Education Scotland/Care Inspectorate) and singleton (Care Inspectorate) inspections.
  • Liaise with parents, members of multi-disciplinary teams, other establishments, and agencies as appropriate.
  • Create a mentoring and supportive environment for new staff members, taking responsibility for overseeing students as necessary - staff performance review.
  • Meet regularly with early years practitioners to offer a forum for discussion, sharing of knowledge and good practice; promote and discuss appropriate continuous professional development and provide support for other ELC staff to engage with professional development opportunities.
  • Actively seek opportunities to keep up to date with early years initiatives and developments and participate in continuing professional development in line with council policies and procedures.
  • To comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the council's full privacy statement and service privacy notices
  • To ensure all individual plans are updated and shared with staff.
  • To ensure the environment reflects children's work, interest and learning experiences. The environment is safe and clean at all times. All relevant documents are updated and regularly reviewed to support the delivery of a safe, clean and inspiring environment.
