The role will provide essential support to the schools and Central Finance Team in the financial planning and financial management of the MAC.

My client is a Catholic Multi Academy Trust.


Description

  • Ensure that delegated budgets are communicated to those who have oversight, that they are effectively managed in accordance with financial procedures and that budget holders are kept updated on their budget position through regular and timely budget reports.
  • Produce monthly accounts and budget monitoring reports for the CSEL, CFOO, Board of Directors, Local Governing Bodies and Head Teachers, ensuring appropriate systems are maintained to provide high levels of assurance regarding the reports provided, andthat any variances between budget and actual income/expenditure can be fully explained.
  • Liaising with Head Teachers and school finance staff over budget issues and the monitoring of budget at school level.
  • Calculate and monitor cash flow and ensure processes of bank and payroll reconciliation are carried out regularly and in a timely manner.
  • Produce and analyse balance sheet statements.
  • Conduct the closure of accounting periods.
  • Preparation of annual consolidated statutory accounts in consultation with MAC Auditors and in line with requirements for Companies House, Charities Commission and the ESFA.
  • Ensure exemplary financial priority, taking responsibility for the integrity of financial records and the active prevention of fraud.
  • Oversee the annual process of financial selfevaluation in accordance with ESFA guidelines
  • Work with Head Teachers to manage members of the MAC School Business Lead Team, including day to day communications, systems and procedures associated with accounting matters.
  • Regular communication with School Administrators/Office Managers holding appropriate meetings and training and coaching sessions.

  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations and liaise with bank to resolve queries.
  • Posting payroll journals and resolve discrepancies ensuring robust checking of monthly payroll report.

  • Monthly reconciliation of control accounts (payroll, debtors, creditors, VAT).
  • Oversee centralised payments and accounting (BACS/Cheques/Faster Payment).
  • Monitor VAT and make associated claims.
  • Oversee month end
  • To monitor and oversee central journals.
  • Produce regular management account reports.
  • Ensure MAC licenses and registrations are maintained.
  • Preparation of ESFA/VAT/TAX/Pension and PAYE returns.
  • Check income received in line with ESFA notifications or alternative funding authorities
  • Ensure compliance in all areas of the MAC's financial operations, advising the CSEL, CFOO accordingly and developing systems and procedures to further improve financial systems and procedures in place.

Other:


  • Assist in the production of Financial Regulations and the Financial Procedure Manual.
  • Assist the CFOO, in conjunction with external consultants in advising the Board of Directors on investments.
  • Brief the CFOO on prospective or actual changes to funding formula or other financial changes.
  • Liaison with external auditors, HMRC and pension authorities.
  • Design and produce adhoc reports as directed by the Board of
Directors/CSEL/CFOO

  • Oversee the annual updating of the MAC's Financial procedures and ensure its content is compliant with the ESFA's Academies Financial Handbook.
  • Take lead responsibility for compliance checks in all schools within the MAC.
  • Ensure excellent communication with staff and governance community including relevant training and support where necessary
  • To conduct regular training sessions (virtually) on various aspects of understanding financial data and reporting General (all posts).
