HAB is a diverse and inclusive comprehensive school for girls in central London.

Many HAB girls are from disadvantaged backgrounds, but all study the EBacc and are prepared for university so as to compete with their more advantaged peers.

HAB teachers and support staff are uncompromising and caring in achieving this.


Main Areas of Responsibility Medical**- To be the first point of contact in respect of administering first aid for both students and staff within the school

  • To be the first point of contact for unwell students during lesson time, working with the Duty Principal to determine if the student would need to be sent home.
  • To ensure that there is sufficient first aiders within the academy covering busy periods and absences by arranging and communicating a first aid duty rota.
  • To assist with the Health & Safety Officer with ensuring the compliance of the Medical room including the controlled drugs and emergency storage.
  • To assist with the administration of student medication at the Academy and ensure all medication is kept in line with legal and Federation requirements.
  • Use Medical Tracker to keep logs of all first aid incidents, medication and medical conditions, as well as utilising spreadsheets and paperbased records as required for the medical room.
  • To support the Health & Safety Officer with the Analysis of data on the Medical Tracker and report on findings to Line Managers and SLT, with suggested solutions for improvement e.g. reduction of injuries in various locations.
  • To coordinate communication to home around any first aid events that have occurred.
  • To ensure that the highest possible standards of clinical procedures are maintained.
  • To liaise with the DSL, parents/carers to ensure that the health needs of students are satisfied.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that suitable and sufficient stocks of first aid consumables and equipment are maintained within the Academy
  • To work within current Child Protection Procedures and to liaise with the academy's DSL. To be aware of Southwark's Child Protection procedures.
  • To ensure confidentiality of all medical information.
  • To ensure uptodate clinical and professional practice is maintained.

Communications

  • To communicate effectively with the parents of students, staff, and Federation personnel, as appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, to communicate and cooperate with persons or bodies outside the Academy.
  • To follow agreed policies for communications in the Academy.
  • To be flexible and available to assist at the student reception, such as issuing lunch tickets and offering advice for daytoday issues.

Pastoral Systems

  • To alert the appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and to make recommendations as to how these may be resolved

Qualifications & Experience

  • A good standard of education including English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent
  • Awareness of current public health services
  • Awareness of current developments in school
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Knowledge of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software
  • Some understanding of infection control
  • First Aid qualification
  • Knowledge of many of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Minimum of three years' admin experience
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Experience in organising and managing support for students
  • Experience in organising and managing training for relevant staff members and managing logs
  • Experience of using spreadsheets
  • Experience of analysing accident reporting log data and first aid logs for patterns and trends
  • Experience of creating actions plans in response to analysis to minimise accidents and first aid visits by students/staff
  • Experience of working with professionals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
