Witness Care Officer - Special Measures - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract/Secondment

12 Month Fixed-Term Contract:


The post holder will work with police colleagues and stakeholders across the justice system to enable victims and witnesses to give their best evidence possible when called to court.


The post holder will require excellent verbal and written communication skills and ideally hold previous experience in partnership and inter-agency engagement.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To fully understand the range of Special Measures available to victims and witnesses at each stage of the justice process, as specified in Section 28 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 199
  • To conduct benchmarking and establish the current extent of special measures use across the force
  • To understand the impact of special measures upon victim and witness attendance at court and ensure Rape and Serious Sexual Offences and Domestic Abuse cases are supported fully
  • To possess a good understanding of data protection legislation and demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality
  • To identify and recommend service improvements to Team Leaders through briefing notes and presentations
  • To provide advice and guidance to colleagues across the force to improve service delivery and performance, considering recommendations for partner agencies and stakeholders where appropriate.

Skills and Competencies:


Essential criteria:


  • Ability to collate and evaluate data or information AND identify patterns, trends, similarities and discrepancies, drawing conclusions and suggesting improvements
  • Experience with Microsoft Office in particular Excel, PowerPoint and MS Word
  • Ability to produce and confidently present information to a range of audiences in a variety of formats
  • Ability to work accurately and to a high standard
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess an empathetic and understanding approach to the needs of victims and witnesses

Desirable:


  • Knowledge/experience of the wider Criminal Justice System and associated stakeholders
  • Experience working with victims of crime, witnesses and/or vulnerable people
  • An understanding of the special measures available to victims and witnesses at each stage of the justice process, as specified in Section 28 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999

Hours

You will be working 36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday - between the hours of 08:00-16:00.
Duty time outside of these hours may be required due to prevailing workloads and priorities.

There might also be a requirement at times to travel to other locations within the Force area or visit courts across the West Midlands region.

Therefore you must possess the capability to travel to different locations.


Location
You can choose to work at the Witness Care Hub at either Wednesfield, Birmingham or the Coventry Case Management Unit


Vetting
Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process


Medical


Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
