Description

Our Company

Transition Bio is an innovative, early-stage biotechnology company with the vision of being the world leader in data-driven discovery, analysis, and modulation of biological condensates.

At Transition Bio, multidisciplinary teams with diverse skill sets in molecular biology, biophysics, chemistry, engineering, data science and machine learning work closely together, building first-in-class technology platforms for condensate analysis and high-throughput drug screening.

With close affiliation to Cambridge and Harvard universities, our approach is truly original and encompasses a growing collection of novel technologies and methodologies.

The Opportunity

The internship will be focussed on identification and validation of small molecule hits using Transition Bio's proprietary drug discovery platform.

The internship is expected to last 6 months, with a view to start in May/June 2024; it represents an excellent opportunity for students who recently graduated with a university degree (or higher), or who are currently already working in the field and wish to gain further work experience in a rapidly developing biotechnology start-up.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Maintain multiple cell lines used for protein expression, including HEK (mammalian) and Sf9,(insect).
  • Perform routine protein purification using gravity chromatography columns.
  • Assist in running biochemical and biophysical assays such as DSF, crosslinking and HTRF.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments including cloning, DNA purification, gel electrophoresis and western blotting.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including excellent record keeping using electronic laboratory notebook systems.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, chemistry, or related fields. Students entering their final year of undergraduate studies would also be considered.
  • Experience working in a molecular biology laboratory in an academic or industry setting, where molecular biology and recombinant protein expression/purification is performed to a high standard.
  • Ability to organise, analyse, and deliver information in a concise, accurate, and professional manner; strong written and oral communication skills; excellent data management skills.
  • An interest in cuttingedge science and a high degree of integrity and team orientation; a cando motivating attitude.
  • Experience with molecular biology, protein production and biophysical characterisation of protein interactions. Experience with biological condensate forming proteins/intrinsicallydisordered proteins would be advantageous.
