Oadby and Wigston Borough Council is looking to appoint a Refuse & Recycling Collector/Loader to form part of the Refuse & Recycling team.

The team are responsible for achieving high standards for recycling and waste collection.

You will work as part of a team to collect all kinds of waste and recyclable material.

Alongside basic numeracy & literacy skills, you will have experience of working to instructions/ guidelines and have a sound understanding of customer care.


Bank Holidays are considered part of the normal working week but time of in lieu and pay rates will reflect this work.

JOB CONTEXT:


  • Form part of the Refuse & Recycling team responsible for achieving high standards for recycling and waste collection.
  • Work in line with the Council's Vision and Values to promote a culture which aims to deliver a high standard of service by working together to exceed our customer expectations.

MAIN DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Collection of domestic refuse and recycling including paper, plastics, cans, cardboard, glass and green garden waste from households.
  • Collection of individual items of refuse from households such as white goods, furniture, and any other items as required.
  • Carry out in a safe manner the collection, loading and appropriate vehicle operation duties, including operating the vehicle packer plates, as required.
  • Ensure that footpaths, carriageways, verges, open spaces and accessible areas of dwellings are left clear of refuse and recycling.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of themselves, work colleagues and agency workers in line with Council policies.
  • Respond in an appropriate manner to all requests or enquiries from members of the public.
  • Undertake waste collection and recycling either manually, or by the use of bin lifting equipment attached to the refuse or recycling collection vehicle.
  • Notify the driver for recording purposes and the occupier of any household premises of the reason why refuse or recycling has not been collected by a pre-printed note.
  • Assist the driver in the safe manoeuvring of the vehicle as required.
  • Assist in cleaning the vehicle each week.
  • Deliver wheelie bins, refuse and recycling sacks or other containers and leaflets/stickers to households as required.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESOURCES:


  • The post holder will be required to ensure that any data systems under his/her control are kept secure and properly managed.
  • The post holder will be required to be responsible for the vehicles, machinery equipment and materials in their direct control.

Residents of the Borough the General Public, other Local Authorities, external suppliers and consultants, and other external bodies, partnerships and organisations as required.


WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT
The post is situated within the Oadby Depot, Wigston Road, Oadby, Leicestershire, LE2 5JE.

However, you may be required to work from other sites and places within the Borough where your professional attendance is required.


The post holder may be required on occasion to work outside normal working hours to attend meetings or other occasions when your professional attendance is required.


You must be able to lift and manoeuvre various loads and undertake a continuous period of manual work in any weather.

You must wear the appropriate protective clothing and uniforms provided at all times.


You will be required to work Bank Holidays as part of a normal working week and you will be given appropriate time of in lieu and pay in accordance with pay policy.
