Open spaces worker - job description

Aspire is an award-winning community enterprise that is seeking ambitious and outgoing people to work as key members of our lively crews.

If you like clean, open spaces, have enthusiasm for the outdoors, can work hard and want to do the best you can while looking after the environment and improving the lives of disadvantaged people whilst improving yours, then we're interested in talking to you.

Experience is not necessary as you will learn on the job, but a commitment to being good at what you do is essential, as too is the desire to get better.

Aspire is a community business that is campaigning for better conditions for frontline workers including the Real Living Wage and Good working conditions.

Our frontline teams provide open space and estate management services to local councils, housing associations and estates, charities and the private sector.

They are dedicated to maintaining clean and green public and private spaces in an environmentally friendly fashion and treating their customers in a friendly and respectful fashion.

Aspire teams carry out a range of different tasks from keeping public building outdoor space neat and tidy, to managing community gardens and nature reserves, and maintaining sports grounds and football pitches.

As a valued member of our team, you will get the chance to learn new skills in open space and estates management.

You are likely to carry out a range of tasks including grass cutting, maintenance of car parks, play areas and footpaths, cleaning and maintenance of street furniture, litter-picking, leaf clearance and blowing.

You will be expected to demonstrate the outcome of your work through regular reporting using digital channels and will be equipped with a works mobile to carry out such tasks.

You will work across a variety of sites within a small team, and will be expected to communicate with clients and residents in a friendly and professional fashion.

You will be expected to work collaboratively within the team and to listen and learn from your supervisor and other members of the team.

You will be trained to work in a safe and organised manner as health and safety is one of number one concerns.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment, but there will always be time to answer your questions so that you can do your job properly.

You will get your chance to contribute to the wider success of Aspire through participation in online meetings and by sharing your views about how you can achieve better outcomes.

You will also have the chance to contribute to our #BetterForUs campaign which aims to support fair pay and better working conditions for frontline workers.

This is a real chance for people who want a chance to prove their worth and to build and develop their personal skills and confidence in an organisation that wants to see you succeed and make a difference in your life while making things better for local communities.
