Background and Job Purpose:
"Supporting positive change in the lives of children and young people"

The Zone Youth Club (organisation name, and operating at The Pavilion Youth & Community Café) is a charity based in Broadstairs offering free, high-quality opportunities to children and young people between the ages of 0-18.

We believe the creative arts as well as outdoor sports and activities are a superb tool for creativity, motivation, inclusion and self-confidence.

Since our inception in 2006, we have developed a significant track record for supporting children and young people through our youth club, including creative projects, especially those facing challenging circumstances (such as those in care, young people with disabilities and those who face emotional and social difficulties), and have maintained a good record of obtaining support funding.

We are funded by a sub-contracted Kent County Council grant, the National Lottery, Colyer Fergusson, as well as other smaller organisations.

The role of Sessional Youth Worker will involve delivering a range of centre-based sessions, working with and supporting children and young people whilst they engage in positive activities.

It will include designing, planning, delivering, and evaluating activities. Keeping records and monitoring paperwork will also be required. This role also includes delivering outdoor sports and games.

In addition to the term time youth worker role, there will be extended working hours during school holidays.

As we are a community café, we have families attending and offer a small café service including lunch for children, snacks etc.

We deliver a very full programme of activities during the holidays, including some trips out, and residential weekends.

There may also be times when help is needed for morning café sessions. A knowledge of food hygiene and preparation would be useful.

It is important to make all our customers feel welcome and included, as we take great pride in being at the heart of our local community.

We work closely as a team and expect everyone to help and support each other when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all paperwork for the session is completed including other monitoring requirements.
  • To attend mandatory training which includes but is not limited to; Basic Youth Work training, First Aid and Safeguarding training.
  • To attend and contribute to regular planning, debriefing and review meetings.
  • To work with young people to achieve accredited learning outcomes.
  • Any other duties, which may reasonably be required by the manager.
