This post is mainly working within the community ad foster carers home, however, there maybe times where the postholder is required to attend meetings in person to represent Illuminance Fostering Services.

Purpose of the Job_

To support Illuminance, foster carers in carrying out their fostering tasks and fostering responsibilities towards looked after children.

To support foster carers offer a standard of care which ensures that the best interest of placed children can be met, and that the principle of Safe Caring are applied and to access resources so as to manage risk and meet identified needs.

To deliver outcome for children and young people placed with Illuminance carers as follows:


  • Vulnerable children and young people are safe from harm and build resilience.
  • Children and young people achieve their full potential in education, learning and future employment.
  • Children and young people enjoy heathy lifestyles and know how to help others.
  • Children and young people have a voice in shaping the support they receive.
  • Children and young people living with Illuminance foster carers enjoy a good quality of life and are happy.

Main Responsibilities:_

  • To carry out a range of tasks such as:


  • Child minding

  • Transporting looked after children to school
  • Supervising contact of looked after children
  • Arranging and joining in activities with the looked after child and/or the fostering household
  • As required attend meetings to support foster carers, social workers, children and other agencies
  • Any other supportive tasks as requested by the fostering manager, the senior supervising social worker, or the supervising social worker. e.g health and safety checks at fostering households.
  • To undertake and complete safeguarding training
  • Since confidential information is involved with the duties of this post the post holder will be required to exercise discretion at all times and to observe relevant codes of practice and legislation in relation to data protection and personal information
  • The post holder must be able to undertake, and participate in training, coaching and development activities, as appropriate.
  • Where the post holder is disabled, every effort will be made to support all Illuminance Fostering Service 3 necessary aids, adaptations or equipment to allow them to carry out all the duties of the job
  • The post holder must have a full driving licence and access to a car that is fully insured, with business usage, and has a valid MOT
  • You will be expected to continuously develop in your role. It is in the nature of the work of Illuminance Fostering that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All staff are, therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises that tasks which are not specifically covered in their job description have to be undertaken but which will be within their level of responsibility. These additional duties will normally be to cover unforeseen circumstances or changes in work, and they will normally be compatible with the regular type of work.


Key tasks and accountabilities are intended to be a guide to the range and level of work expected of the post-holder.

This is not an exhaustive list of all tasks that may fall to the post-holder and employees will be expected to carry out such other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time.
