This is a great development opportunity for an experienced Nurse to gain new skills and competencies in supporting learners, preceptors, assessors and supervisors in the clinical area.

You will work within NUH's Regional Spinal Unit and associated clinical areas.


You will work closely with the specialty leadership team to deliver the bespoke education and training needs of the specialty whilst supporting the Division in education and training when required.

Main duties of the job

You should be a Registered Nurse with a proven clinical background and a passion for teaching and facilitation.


We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, confident, flexible in their approach, using own initiative, with an ability to prioritise and work on multiple strands of work.

You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be an exceptional clinical role model.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Devise, organise and deliver the Spinal Foundation programme and competency assessments across the specialty including liaison with other MDT teams to facilitate as required.


Act as a role model alongside all staff members supporting them to develop their confidence in spinal care and associated clinical practice.

Promote reflective practice, clinical supervision, coaching and experiential learning opportunities developing a learning culture.

Promote by own example, effective multidisciplinary team working.


Share good practice with colleagues across the division to enhance the quality of the learning environment through the training programme.

Contribute towards the development of clinical staff competence in spinal care.


Be a visible role model to ensure that the dignity, rights and confidentiality of the patient and individual team members are protected and maintained in accordance with national standards and guidelines.

Plan, prepare and maintain materials for use in educational programmes that is accurate and relevant to the target audience.

Monitor and evaluate training feedback and adapt as required.

Ensure accurate records of training and education are maintained.

Essential criteria

  • Recent Clinical Education experience including teaching and assessing
  • Demonstrates experience of teaching one to one and to groups
  • Demonstrates evidence of supporting, delivering and evaluating education and training
  • Demonstrates experience of supporting change into clinical practice and has an awareness of the change process
Desirable criteria

  • Experience of managing staff and providing feedback
  • Experience of simulation
