Can you spare 4 hours a week?Are you aged 21 or over with a full driving licence and 3 years' experience?
Are you able to support patients at Northampton General Hospital with this fantastic service?
Our buggy service helps our patients and visitors get around the hospital.
The role offers a vital service in helping patients with mobility issues, making it easier to access hospital services and getting visitors to their appointments.
All of the driver roles are hugely rewarding for our volunteers and full training will be provided for all roles.
We ask for the following commitment:
- 4 hours each shift
- Same day each week that you volunteer
- A minimum of 6 months commitment
You will receive full training prior to commencement of the role.
Some of the duties include:
Driving the indoor or outdoor buggy around the hospital on the designated route
Undertake visual safety checks
Supporting patients / visitors to access the buggy
Volunteers cannot replace the role of a paid employee and this is not a work placement.

- To greet and chat with patients or visitors on arrival and provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
- To transport visitors to their appointments / wards.
- Support patients to access the buggy, ensuring the seatbelt is secured.
- Undertake visual safety checks at the start of the shift, reporting any issues immediately.
- Only driving in designated areas.
- Be courteous and considerate to all other road users
- Give way always to pedestrians
- Ensure all logs and paperwork are completed accurately
- To attend all mandatory training and any additional training as required
