Salary:
£61,100 - £91,700 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?


The group are embedding agility in our ways of working, building capability for a digital SSE of the future, meeting the needs of our customers in a new way.

A key component of this is to accelerate our cloud transformation to deliver a modern flexible cost-effective IT landscape to support our wider business transformation.


The Senior Delivery Lead will be responsible for leading the delivery of our highest value work streams to realise our cloud transformation goals and will play a critical role in helping to build out delivery capability within the transformation arena.

A vital part of the role is delivering the transformation in line with stakeholder expectations.

You will be accountable for end-to-end delivery of the transformation objectives using a complex supplier eco-system using best practice methodologies, ensuring effective control over costs and resourcing.

Key to the role is to manage the delivery ensuring; risk, legal, security and other compliance requirements are met.


You will be accountable for realising the programme objectives defined on the transformation roadmap, with an ability to be adaptable to meet changing business environments.

You will hold strong relationships and collaborate closely with the system owners and Architecture Leads to ensure the transformation roadmaps have the right balance of delivering business outcomes, technology enablement and operational requirements.

You will be required to drive delivery across multiple pieces of work and teams and will need to be adept at prioritising your approach.


You will be expected to:

  • Manage multiple workstreams ensuring that the resultant systems/services deliver the specified outcomes, within budget and timescale.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective relationships with multiple delivery teams, central teams, stakeholders at all levels and business teams to ensure that interfaces work correctly.
  • Lead the delivery of multiple technology solutions (while providing oversight to others) with a focus on tangible business outcomes in accordance with the appropriate methodology.
  • Lead on the management of 3rd parties, reviewing their performance and providing oversight, and ensuring alignment with SSE ways of working and values. Will act as a routine contact point between organisation and supplier.
  • Lead and manage cross product and external dependencies, ensuring activities are joined up from an operational and delivery point of view.
  • Ensure that IT / business strategy, policy and standards are adhered to, thus achieving commonality and ease of maintenance.
  • Provide regular updates against the defined outcomes to demonstrate performance and progress against the transformation roadmap.
  • Provide input into the governance process itself, including the methods and tools to be used.

What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A track record of leading on the delivery of key technology or business change outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience in running successful delivery across multiple delivery teams. With tangible examples of how your strong technical delivery capability has helped to provide delivery teams with support and guidance.
  • Demonstrable experience in building strong capability within delivery teams through leadership and coaching.
  • Ability to articulate the environment that supports SSE's Vision and Values, whilst encouraging innovation.
  • Experience of having shaped business cases and delivering tangible benefits to an organisation.
  • Experience and ability to prioritise.
  • Ability to adapt delivery processes to optimise delivery of outcomes.
  • Ability to identify and manage key stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify delivery risks and issues and put relevant mitigation plans in place.
  • Experience of project cost accounting and a good understanding of capex vs opex budgetary structures.
  • Experience in using a range of both traditional and agile delivery methodologies and the ability to work in a hybrid mode.
