The post will be based in the Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) which is currently housed on the second floor of the Central Health Clinic, Tower Hill, Bristol and is co-located with the Sexual Health service Unity.

Where appropriate a joint examination with another doctor (e.g. forensic examiner) will be performed.

The medical examinations will be undertaken at The Bridge SARC Centre of Excellence, Bristol; however, there may be times when the post-holder is required to attend other sites to perform medical examinations, for example, local hospitals in the wider area (Gloucestershire/Wiltshire/Avon and Somerset)

The post-holder will provide "on-call" services out of hours as part of an on call rota during which they will attend "acute" medical examinations of children and young people weekends and bank holidays (daytime only) as required will also be expected to offer advice, triage and support the forensic nurse and doctor examiners seeing post pubertal young people

Whilst providing services, the post-holder will also provide telephone support and advice to professionals from partner agencies including police, social care and other health care professionals.

This will include participating in strategy meetings/discussions, making referrals and attending multi agency discussions where appropriate.

During a medical examination the post-holder will undertake sensitive trauma informed holistic consultations, document and interpret injuries when indicated and arrange appropriate medical management of these; photo-document genital / anal examination findings; collect forensic samples and appropriately label and bag samples taken in evidence; ascertain need and supply emergency contraception and STI prophylaxis, and make appropriate onward referrals for safeguarding, sexual health and therapeutic support.

We are looking for an experienced paediatrician to take work within the children's and young person's rape and sexual assault at the Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and Paediatric Centre of Excellence located in Bristol.

The Bridge SARC looks after children and young people of all ages who have experienced sexual abuse in the geographical regions of Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire as well as adults complainants of rape and sexual assault in the area covered by the Avon & Somerset constabulary.

We are looking for a consultant paediatrician to join this service in providing clinical care to young people and children who have been sexually abused.
