    Introduction

    As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will lead a team and strive for excellence. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established medical team at Pinhoe View and make a meaningful difference to men and women with enduring mental health problems.

    Pinhoe View is a 36-bedded inpatient service, comprising a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist and two Associate Specialists. In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (Nursing, OT, Psychology, and Social Work) to provide care and treatment for up to 16 patients supported by an Associate Specialist doctor.

    Your key responsibilities as a Consultant Psychiatrist include managing complex cases, formulating care plans and treatments tailored to individual needs, and guiding evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Liaise and collaborate with care coordinators, commissioners, families, carers, and other services/agencies.
    • Implement the Mental Health Act and liaise with the Ministry of Justice (if applicable).
    • Engage in multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, and partnership working.
    • Perform administrative duties associated with patient care, ensuring NHSE contractual obligations are met, and initial discharge summaries are sent within 24 hours of discharge.
    • Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council and adhere to professional codes of conduct.
    • Maintain Section 12(2) and approved clinician status.

    The hospital operates a two-tier on-call system, with first-tier on-call provided by Associate Specialists and agency on-call. The post holder will be required to participate in the second-tier hospital on-call as the duty Responsible Clinician.

    You will be expected to cover for other medical colleagues during leave and absences, which is reciprocated.

    Requirements:

    • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
    • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
    • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
    • Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical patient care.
    • Hold Section 12(2) approval to work in England and Approved clinician status.
    • Experience in General Adult settings and working in a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Experience of working in acute inpatient or community settings, ideally inpatient settings, and risk assessment and management.

    Pinhoe View comprises two 16-bedded wards - one male ward and one female ward. Patients may be informal or detained under the Mental Health Act.
