We are looking for a dedicated team manager to commit to delivering a high-quality service to children, families, victims, communities and partners.

Working as one of five team manager roles within the YJS, you will be responsible for the strategic developmentand management of services to children.


There are key areas of service delivery:
Court and Initial Assessment, Community Supervision, Intensive Interventions, Therapeutic and Family Intervention, and Restorative Justice and Communities.

You will need to be able to work flexibly to cover weekends, evenings and bank holidays either by being on call or by providing cover to Courts, Referral Order Panels or staff contact sessions with children, families or victims.

You will be required to travelto all parts of the county.

  • Ability to think laterally and adapt to changing situations in a measured and flexible manner to alter the advice and guidance provided to suit any change in circumstance whether legislative, structural, partnership related, etc
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to chair, facilitate and present to meetings or groups, with the ability to influence the actions of others and communicate information, which may be complex and contentious
  • Ability to advise staff on complex and highrisk casework including the consideration of a range of different and effective intervention methods which could illicit and facilitate change and positive outcomes, e.g. restorative justice, motivational interviewing,trauma informed approaches, etc
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, family members, volunteers, professional colleagues and partnership agencies
  • Effective people management skills including performance management skills and the ability to provide effective supervision, support and development to individuals, volunteers and teams
  • Ability to research, analyse and interpret information to make effective and robust judgements, write reports which plan long term policy and business implications

Qualifications/Experience:


  • Professional qualification within one of the associated partnership agencies (e.g. Social Work, Probation, NHS Health, Police, Youth/Criminal Justice, Teacher, Youth Work) or a relevant degree or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Advanced, theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge within Youth Justice plus detailed knowledge of the associated organisational policies, practices and procedures of the wider youth justice remit and its partnership agencies
  • Extensive youth justice experience including evidence of working with challenging and complex children, young people and families
  • Understanding of services and resources of the statutory, voluntary and private sector and specialist knowledge of the Youth Justice System and Court Work
  • Substantial theoretical knowledge of risk management to provide a safe service to staff teams and others as appropriate
  • Professional understanding of partner agencies and associated policies and practices, particularly Childrens Services, Education, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Police, Probation, Substance Misuse service provision, private contractors forelectronic surveillance, and voluntary organisations such as Victim Support, Audio Active, YMCA, etc
  • Sound working knowledge of IT such as Word, Excel, youth justice case management systems (or equivalent packages) (e.g. use of database systems to record information)
