The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a vibrant department which has strong research expertise in Applied Analysis, Continuum Mechanics and Industrial Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Marine Population Modelling, Mathematical Biology, Epidemiology and Statistical Informatics, Applied Statistics and Stochastic Analysis.
We have a distinguished track record of conducting high quality research in mathematics and statistics applied to a wide range of real world problems.
The Department has also developed distinctive teaching modules for our own degree programmes, as well as for scientists and engineers across the University, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
We also run a number of fully online postgraduate programmes in Statistics, including a Degree Apprenticeship in Medical Statistics.The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks to appoint a Teaching Associate who will be an experienced teacher.
The postholder will teach on our undergraduate and postgraduate modules as required; supervise final year dissertations; lead tutorials and computer labs; and contribute to the marking and assessment of modules at all levels.
Key aspects of the role will involve leading online modules which form part of our fully online programmes and contributing to the supervision of MSc projects.
To be considered for the role, you will hold a good Honours degree and/or PhD in Statistics or relevant experience/training.
You will have sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in statistics to deliver established teaching programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to contribute to course development and scholarship activities.
You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.
You will also have an ability to plan and prioritise your own workload, under general supervision, and be able to work within a team environment.
