Description

About Us
Community Action Norfolk is an independent charity.

Our role is to help build a stronger and fairer Norfolk through support, empowerment and strategic partnership with voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations.

We do this by:

  • Harnessing the value of connecting people and services in the communities of Norfolk
  • Supporting people to make a positive difference by providing information, advice, training and support for positive outcomes in the communities of Norfolk

We provide direct support to around 500 voluntary community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations a year across Norfolk with everything from funding advice and governance support to engagement and needs identification.

We are a key organisation supporting the engagement of VCSE organisations in Norfolk.

Through this we aim to build a positive dialogue between the VCSE sector and other partners to collaboratively achieve the best possible outcomes for the people of Norfolk.

Fairness is an important part of our work. We want to ensure Norfolk is a fair place for all, whoever they are, wherever they live. In a county where 53% of the population live in rural areas, rurality remains an important part of this. We run a wide range of programmes and projects from housing advice through to supporting isolated older people. Most of our delivery is undertaken in partnership with other organisations.

The Role

This role will be a dedicated point of contact within Norfolk for the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector providing access to a range of cancer related information, resources and support.

It will deliver a range of engagement activities to inform the development of bespoke opportunities for the VCSE sector and local communities, with the aim to increase confidence in talking about cancer and awareness of the support available.

This role will work closely with the Talking About Cancer Together Project Officer in Suffolk (employed by Community Action Suffolk) and the Macmillan Engagement Lead for Suffolk and Norfolk to ensure aligned activity, consistent advice and sharing of best practice across the two counties.

As well as supporting the wider Community Action Norfolk team where priorities overlap.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • To connect with a wide range of VCSE organisations and community groups in Norfolk, both individually and collectively, providing tailored information and guidance to enable them, their clients/service users and local communities to access appropriate cancer support and services from a range of local and national providers.
  • To work with partners and communities to develop a greater understanding of the information and support needs of the VCSE sector around cancer, identifying opportunities and embedding information, training and support into existing or new projects and networks.
  • To develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of local services and support available for those affected by cancer, which could include carrying out research, baseline surveys and writing reports.
  • To organise and deliver virtual and facetoface training, events and workshops to voluntary and community organisations, groups and networks that share this expert knowledge appropriately with different audiences. This will include establishing a project steering group to encourage peer learning and collaborative approaches to increasing cancer support awareness across Norfolk.
  • To develop resources for VCSE organisations and community grassroots groups to build awareness of cancer support services, how to access them and increase confidence in talking about cancer, ensuring their timely review and updating. To work with CAN's wider team and other partners to promote the project and generate relevant content to inform and support both internal and external communications and marketing.
  • To develop and undertake project monitoring and reporting activity including case studies and examples of good practice, to ensure learning and development opportunities are identified and shared appropriately. This may include sharing information with local and/or national strategic forums to help inform and support wider developments.
  • To work with the wider Community Action Norfolk (CAN) team to raise awareness of CAN's services and support offer amongst VCSE organisations and communities.
  • To ensure the project's programme of training and events integrates with other CAN activity and is promoted through a range of channels to reach a diverse audience. Your own transport is essential, as is the ability to work some evenings and weekends if required.
