We have an exciting opportunity for a FOI & Data Returns Officer to work within the Performance Management Unit on a temporary basis for 18 months.

The Performance Management Unit are responsible for all statutory and corporate performance management and policy issues


As a FOI & Data Returns Officer you will ensure the timely completion of statutory returns and requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act.


Key responsibilities are

  • Coordinating provision of crime data for all external requests including Freedom of Information Requests (FOI) and Home Office Annual Data Requirements (ADRs).
  • Running and auditing crime data for FOI requests.
  • Analysing data to ensure requirements under FOI legislation are satisfied.
  • Quality assuring data returns from report design unit officers.
  • Quality assuring data accuracy in crime performance reports.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders where data provision includes sensitive or potentially damaging information.
  • Auditing and correcting automated returns to the Home Office Data hub including developing data queries to ensure future accuracy.
  • Coordinating and quality assuring the provision of Annual Data returns to the Home Office.
  • Supporting HMICFRS Inspections by providing crime data as requested and quality assuring other data provided.
  • Providing guidance support and mentoring to new and existing staff in use of discoverer including checking accuracy and providing feedback.
  • Development of new and modified data queries to provide quick and accurate data to support performance and governance.
  • Responsible for building capacity in BI to replace excel based data queries.
  • Providing Strategic Compliance Unit with crime and data analysis as needed.
  • Providing accurate crime data as requested for performance review officers.
  • Presenting of accurate crime reports for all stakeholders

Skills and experience:


  • Experience of analysis and presentation of statistical data.
  • Experience of working in a small team environment to short deadlines under pressure.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel, including the creation and use of spreadsheets.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with sensitive and/or complex datasets.
