About the role:


As we have launched a Software Engineering Academy at MHR, we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer who is ready for their next career chapter as a Software Engineering Coach to support and develop our engineering department.


Software Engineering Coaches are the backbone of how we at MHR run our Software Academy to deliver incredible coding opportunities that change people's lives.

You are the inspiration and the guidance for the Academy Engineers.

People who live and breathe what it's like to work in the industry for real, including the challenges, pressures and opportunities that come with it.


The good news is you don't already have to be a coach You may be a software engineer that enjoys mentoring and upskilling junior members of a team looking to take the next step up in their career.


Alongside a coaching team, you will be responsible for leading the Software Academy through a wide-ranging, challenging, and unique journey through the world of Software Development.

This will involve being skilled in at least one of the following areas, Technical Expertise and/or Coaching.


As a coach you will deliver talks on a whole range of topics that encompass modern software development techniques in high-performing teams; preparing workshop materials and projects which help to deliver the core MHR software pillars of Agile, Continuous Delivery and Product Mode by modelling a problem solving mindset that helps set junior developers up for their first jobs in tech and beyond; and inspiring academy engineers by creating a fun and dynamic learning environment.


What will your day-to-day role look like?

  • Teaching and training academy developers to be productive members of the overall Software department by designing your own training programme.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest changes in technology, and constantly improving your skills and understanding of working in Software Engineering.
  • Giving talks on the set topics that MHR has set out for coding standards based on working with the Management and Architecture teams.
  • Preparing and facilitating coding workshops
  • Supporting individuals and small groups by teaching and setting challenges
  • Modelling a problemsolving mindset and coaching academy engineers to think for themselves.
  • Working with the Product Design team to come up with value stream work that can help with improving the engineers and staff experience by teaching skills on the job.

  • A passion for technology, programming, and problem solving.

  • Angular framework
  • An understanding of the techniques of modern software development
  • Confidence to articulate coding concepts to an audience of beginners.
  • Ability to live code and deliver talks to a broad audience.
