Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Advisor to join our dynamic team.

The role will suit an experienced clinical education manager looking to advance their career while in a modern campus receiving significant investment.

This post will maintain the Faculty access to high level regional and sectoral intelligence at a time of government intervention and turbulence.

The appointed person will help to build and maintain relationships with the local and regional NHS at all levels and facilitate the building of placement at a time of increasing HEI competition.


The primary function of this post is to maintain external relationships and build the external profile within the local and regional NHS for the Faculty.

It will involve liaison with all NHS trusts, HEE/NHSE&I, primary care providers, integrated care boards and private health care providers.

The primary responsibilities for the post are

  • Working with and advising the PVC and Executive Dean on the active relationship management with the local and regional NHS and its current and future education organisations
  • HEE, NHSE&I primary care NHS foundation trusts Integrated Care Boards private healthcare providers etc.
  • Working to build placement capacity for BCU at a time of increasing competition for placements with other Higher Education Institutions
  • To act as the faculty's first point of contact for new developments to support the everchanging needs of the local and regional NHS and to relay these requirements back to the Faculty for consideration and implementation as appropriate.
  • To ensure the faculty keeps abreast and ahead of the requirements of the NHS for pre and post registration education [enterprise related].
  • To promote and represent the faculty with external NHS stakeholders and networks to develop and protect our business
To be a success in this post you will need:

  • Evidence of a track record of providing strategic and visionary direction in the development of educational projects and/or enterprise.
  • Have a good knowledge and awareness of the placement position locally regionally and nationally.
  • Successful leadership and development of clinical education in the NHS environment.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • In addition, the following specialist expertise, skills and experience is desirable:_
  • Experience of successful interaction between Higher Education, the clinical environment or commerce, research, and professional bodies.
  • Experience of successful income generation either in the NHS or within an HEI.
  • Ability to be an articulate advocate for the faculty and able to promote and protect its interests.
