The Global Franchise Head is a senior leadership role in the company.

Depending on the specific franchise, product(s) and its stage of life cycle, the Global Franchise Head has high level accountabilities that are critical to the delivery of AZ business objectives and portfolio value targets.

The Global Franchise Head is accountable for the strategic leadership of the cross-functional Franchise Team to deliver successful global product strategies aligned to the global brand strategies through the brands' life cycles.

The Global Franchise Head may additionally lead an indication-level Global Product Team to devise and deliver an indication-level product strategy.


Main Accountabilities:

This role reports to the SVP Global Respiratory & Immunology and has the following accountabilities:

Development & delivery of ambitious & coherent franchise strategy:

  • Defines and drives strategic and scientific value creation across lifecycle including development, approval, launch, growth and maturity, integrating diverse internal and external perspectives
  • Partners with the Commercial VP / Lead to generate, evaluate and deliver optimal commercial strategies to improve the value of the franchise.

Lead ambassador for the franchise internally & externally:

  • Engagement and consultation with KEEs. Establishing and nurturing effective networks.
  • Delivery of product information to support internal and external business portfolio reporting (eg. CEO briefings, annual results communications etc).

Builds and effectively leads impactful cross-functional teams.

  • Strong, creative and visible leadership of a successful, efficient cross functional team of global functional leaders responsible for the delivery of the franchise.
  • Implements optimal program structures using subteams where appropriate to drive timely and effective decision making and delivery of agreed program objectives.

Ensure appropriate Governance and Compliance and protect AZ ́s Rights, Data and Intellectual Property

  • Development and execution of publication and PR strategy for the product
  • Approve all external information on the product/franchise (including publications, regulatory documents, clinical trial registers etc)

Partnership & alliance management (where applicable)

  • Business lead for the panasset partnership, nurturing a productive working relationship with the partner(s)
  • In conjunction with legal and finance, ensure compliance with the partnership agreement

Essential Requirements:


  • Sciencebased degree and /or will be medically qualified.
  • Significant expertise & experience in all aspects of the drug development process, specifically in designing development strategies and delivering Phase 3 programs coupled with the appropriate regulatory and commercial insights required to achieve a successful product approval and launch.
  • Strong business leader seen as credible with Key Opinion Leaders, Payers and Scientific communities. Specific and relevant Therapy Area expertise. Fully conversant with science as it relates to the brand
  • Strong vision and excellent problemsolving skills, passionate, and have the drive to succeed.
  • Entrepreneurial in their style of working and have the energy level to create and lead a group of motivated individuals
  • Ability to communicate and influence at the highest levels with both internal and external collaborators.
  • Successful global crossfunctional team leadership
  • Line management experience
  • Experience in more than one SET Area at senior levels
  • Proven ability to learn new information rapidly and effectively
