Street Cleansing Operative - Level 1

Salary - £23,114 - £23,893 (Grade 3)

Hours - 37

Contract type - full time


37 hours per week, Wednesday to Sunday between the hours of 06.00 am to 18.00 pm (as specified by the Area Manager).


Are you passionate about creating a cleaner, safer environment for your community? Do you take pride in your work and enjoy being part of a team? We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking Street Cleansing Operative - Level 1 to join our team and help maintain our city.


What You'll Do:


  • Perform a wide variety of tasks related to street cleansing, including litter picking, litter bin emptying, sweeping of hard surfaces, and more.
  • To undertake a general range of tasks required for the effective and efficient maintenance of the Environment of the City to include street cleansing activities under the necessary supervision.
  • Work according to schedules and specifications to ensure all duties are completed effectively and efficiently.
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment safely, including powered hand tools, light plant, and pedestrianoperated equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records such as worksheets, timesheets, and chemical logs when necessary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, managers, council officers, and the public to promote a positive image of the council and the services we provide.
  • Support other council divisions, especially the Enforcement section, by providing information and statements that may lead to successful prosecutions.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to handle client/customer requests promptly and safely.
  • Contribute to the goals and objectives of Environmental Services by engaging in appropriate training as needed.

Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style.

Some roles are agile which enable and empowers employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance.

Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location.

Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocation where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location.

Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
