Our Health Economics and Outcomes Research division works with pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers to demonstrate the clinical and economic value of their products to governments and other healthcare payers and providers.

Core services include developing health economic models, which use cutting-edge economic and statistical methodology, and developing market access materials, including reimbursement and value dossiers.


Responsibilities / Position overview:


We are seeking a seasoned Statistician with experience in Bayesian methods to join our Modelling and Analytics team within our wider Health Economics and Outcomes Research business.

In this senior level role, the statistician will play a key and influential role and contribute to the growth and evolution of the team.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of emerging methods in terms of documents, internal training and R code alongside JAGS/Stan/BUGS. Experience with intermediate/advanced concepts in R programming such as building packages, version control and the use of Shiny would be beneficial.
  • Leading statistical input and providing expert guidance to projects, developing statistical analysis plans, performing and reporting statistical analysis as standalone research or for input into health economic models that will provide direct information to clients, and governing/reimbursement bodies and/or for publication.
  • Close collaboration, particularly with the Statistics and Health Economics teams and also crossfunctionally with the wider Lumanity practices is an essential part of the role. Furthermore, this role is clientfacing, and you will be required to contribute directly to business development via input into proposals to clients.

Qualifications:

  • A postgraduate qualification (MSc, PhD) in a statistical/mathematical topic
  • Experience with Bayesian methods and techniques such as MCMC or HMC implemented using software such as JAGS, OpenBUGS or Stan including the capability to implement novel models and adapt existing models is essential.
Experience in health research with one or more of the following would be an advantage:


  • Use of hierarchical models for statistical modelling and data synthesis
  • Synthesis of clinical trial data with external data such as previous trials, general population mortality or observational data as prior information to inform long term extrapolation of outcomes
  • Incorporation of expert opinion to inform estimation and extrapolation of clinical outcomes
  • Ability to take complex statistical methods and approaches and relay these into practicable solutions for the Statistics and Health Economics team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a view to liaising with technical and nontechnical clients (both internally and externally). The ability to clearly communicate technical content to a nontechnical audience is a key requirement of this role.
  • Excellent numerical and critical thinking ability
  • Excellent programming skills. Experience with intermediate/advanced concepts in R programming such as building packages, version control and the use of Shiny would be beneficial.
  • Experience working within a Data Science, Statistics, Health Economics or other similar data analysis focused team, with demonstrated ability to contribute to new methods/processes for the team
  • Experience working in a role planning, performing and reporting statistical analyses within a consultancy/contract research organization (CRO) environment would be an advantage but is not essential
  • Ability to help support, maintain and expand the academic reputation of the business
  • Experience contributing to scoping of statements of work (desired not essential)
  • Experience with mentoring and/or line management of staff (desired not essential)
  • Understanding of the importance of managing projects within timelines, budget and scope
