This is your opportunity to join a British entomology start-up at a defining moment, prior to the launch of their first innovative new product next Spring.

Enjoy working with an inter-disciplinary team during a period of high-growth and exciting technologicaladvancement.

Working to advance an existing portfolio of sustainable insect control solutions, you will be helping farmers vastly reduce their environmental impacts and financial reliance on chemical insecticides.

Working in an unstructured and fast-changing environment, you will have the energy, ambition, and commitment needed to get the job done.

Joining a company that promote a culture of honesty, integrity, and openness, you will enjoy working in an environment thatrequires flexibility and adaptability.

What you'll be doing:

In the brand-new role of New Solutions Development Scientist, you will play a key role in the development of novel insect control solutions.

Bringing your knowledge and experience to the table, you will conduct scientific research projects from design, throughto implementation and analysis.

You will generate sterile insects, being responsible for the development and optimisation of protocols to assess insect fitness and mating competitiveness for lab trials.

Providing training and support to junior lab assistants, you will also have numerous opportunities for personal growth and skill development, rising through the ranks as the company continues to expand and impress the entomology sector.

You will be:

  • Carrying out literature reviews to guide experiment design.
  • Design, run, and analyse experiments, both independently and as part of a team. For independent projects, you will align your trials with broader program goals.
  • Writing reports, presenting results internally and externally as required.
  • Supporting the improvement of processes that ensure regulation and health and safety compliance requirements are met.
  • Training junior staff members, ensuring their work is of satisfactory quality.

What experience you'll need to apply:
This role will be perfect for you if you have:

  • A Masters or Undergraduate Degree in Biology, Entomology, or similar field.
  • Previous experience working with insects in a lab setting. Commercial experience is desirable, though experience exclusive to academia will also be considered if at a high level.
  • Experience recording data, with great attention to detail, being both diligent and organised.
  • A track record of organising. Prioritising, and completing work to high standards whilst meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with carrying out literature reviews to support and guide experimental design. Academia exclusive experience is acceptable.
  • A good understanding of data processing and statistical analysis. Any understanding of R and/or Python is desirable, though Excel experience alone is sufficient.
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office family, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

What you'll get in return for your experience:
In addition to the competitive base salary banding of £30,000-£45,000 (dependent on experience), you will also receive:

  • Share options.
  • 20 days holiday + Bank Holidays (28 days total).
  • NEST pension scheme; autoenrolment after 1month employment.
  • Access to pool cars.
Core working hours are 9-5:30pm with half an hour for lunch. This is a full-time (37.5 hours) permanent position.
