Background:

The Department of Sociology and Criminology is one of the oldest and most well
- established in London. Our research was ranked 5th in the country by the 2021 Sociology REF panel.

You will contribute to the Economic and Social Research Council's funded study L-earning: rethinking young women's working lives.

The project is for 3 years and explores young women's early experiences of work, including work while studying and how these experiences may contribute to gendered inequalities in later life.


Responsibilities:


This post is for 12 months to work on, Work Package 1 (WP1) of the study _L-earning: rethinking young women's working lives.

_WP1 involves the use of existing (quantitative) data to map young women's working lives and trajectories.


Your role will involve the processing and analysis of secondary data to map patterns and changes over time in young people's engagement with work while studying and post-studies.


There will be opportunities to contribute to all aspects of the study, including attending project meetings, communicating findings and shaping the ongoing agenda of this and other work packages.

You will work directly with Professor Rachel Cohen (WP1Lead). The _L-Earning _study is led by Dr Kim Allen, University of Leeds.


Person Specification:


We are looking for a quantitative social researcher with excellent statistical skills and experience in the processing and analysis of secondary survey data.

Ideally with knowledge of life-course or time-series analysis, and have an interest in the following fields with a deeper understanding of at least one of them: work and employment, youth studies, education, gender inequalities.
