ABOUT BRITISH HOME


British Home is registered charity We were founded in 1861 and moved to our current site on Crown Lane in Streatham in 1892.

We provide care, therapy, support and rehabilitation to people who are profoundly affected by complex neuro-disability.

At any time, we have up to 80 residents across four units covering High Dependency, Long Term Care, Reablement and Palliative Care.

An on-site Therapy Department provide bespoke programmes in both the therapy gym and in residents' rooms, and our Activities
programme ensures that residents are socially active and engaged.


We are making significant investments in all of our services, and in capital projects, as we continue to move to being a Centre of Excellence in neuro-disability, able to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We have over 120 staff across care and therapy teams, administration, services and maintenance. Expenditure in 2020/21 was £6.49m.

We are well served by local transport.
Several buses stop nearby and the nearest station is West Norwood.
There is ample parking on site.


ABOUT THE ROLE
Details

Registered Home Manager (Full Time); Salary £60,000 - £65,000pa

Based at British Home, Crown Lane, Streatham

Reports to Director of Care

25 days annual leave

Purpose

  • To be responsible and accountable for the delivery of the operational daytoday management of the service in accordance with British Home's vision and mission, in compliance with all regulatory and statutory bodies.
  • The Registered Home Manager will lead a large team of dedicated nursing and care staff and efficiently manage resources to ensure exemplary customer service to people living with significant physical and neurodisabilities.
  • Establish and maintain the culture and practice of care based on the values of British Home, deriving from a concern for the individual and mutual respect between residents
- and staff.

  • Work closely with senior staff and quality and governance lead to develop a culture of learning and transformation in evidencebased practice. This will include digitisation of British Home's day to day running and all clinical documentation
  • Work closely with senior staff to lead the organisation on a developmental journey to adjust provision of care into neuro specialisation

Responsibilities:


  • Working alongside the CEO and Director of Care, you will lead the development and implementation of the Business Plan, ensuring linkage to the organisational Strategic Plan
  • Overseeing the Home's operations and ensuring effective and efficient operational procedures are in place
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with health and adult social care commissioners, ensuring sufficient demand for clinical and care services within the
  • Home, in line with budgeted income targets.
  • Continually develop expert knowledge of neurodisability and brain injury care
  • Acting as ambassador for British Home externally, actively seek opportunities to promote the service positively as well as support British Home's fundraising endeavours
  • To be responsible for holding and maintaining the appropriate Care Quality Commission registration for the British Home's care and support services by and as such have a legal
- responsibility for the implementation of legislation relating to a registered care home Leadership

  • Create a step change in the reach of British Home service delivery and service impact for those affected by longterm neurological conditions and acquired brain or spinal injuries.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the neurological rehabilitation services and form strong internal and external stakeholder links to support delivery of a new pathway of care
  • Grow the business via both developing new business revenue streams / local opportunities and strengthening existing stakeholder relationships, including promoting British Home's profile, influence and reputation to aid income generation.
  • Hold the accountability for the successful operation of British Home through the development of an annual business plan, budget and the use of commercial rigour and insights to manage this effectively
  • Attract, retain and develop the workforce in line with both British Home and local strategy and considering their own personal development aspirations
  • Working closely with the Clinical Leads, to ensure a high level of clinical service, capability and governance is maintained within all services
  • Working closely with the Finance Controller, ensure there is a control on costs and that budgetary management is efficient with all revenue opportunities captured. This includes collaborating with referrals and financial client relationships
  • Working closely with the Head of Communications and the Director of Care to understand the customer experience of residents and their families, and foster a culture of excellent customer service throughout the service
  • Continually examine opportunities for performance improvement, risk management and champion a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Work as part of British Home's operational team to shape and deliver change and contribute to the overall success of British Home by participating in corporate projects, data reporting (Including UKROC) and supporting clinical colleagues in researchbased projects when required
  • Provide oncall coverage in line with organisational policies and procedures as needed
  • Become a champion for education and practice development, maintaining a positive valuebased and personcentred approach for residents which enables staff members to maximise their development and create areas of expertise within the service
  • Work to integrate the work of the Therapy Team into the everyday running of the Home with all stakeholders, working in collaboration with rehabilitation data reporting and individual outcome measures
Quality

  • Ensure monthly audits are undertaken, actioned and signed with an aim of continuously improving the service that is provided. This will also involve some audit and data collection design
  • Take responsibility for areas of development or leadership as directed by the Director of Care
  • Take responsibility for working closely with the quality and governance lead nurse to sustain accurate data reporting in line with root cause analysis and regulatory bodies such a UKROC
  • Take responsibility for working closely with the quality and governance lead nurse to ensure there are lessons learned from all incidents and adverse outcomes and commit to placing practice development at the heart of everything you do
  • Take some responsibility for leading practice development work as dictated by supervisions of staff and needs of the service
  • Ensure that disciplinary matters, grievances, capability and whistleblowing issues are dealt with promptly and professionally in accordance with organisational procedures
  • To implement systems and procedures that monitor, maintain and, where appropriate, challenge and improve standards within your service, ensuring that standards are regularly reviewed to achieve high quality services.
  • To ensure that complaints and compliments are handled effectively in accordance with organisational policies ensuring prompt and professional actions to minimise conflict.
  • Following this, work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure governance and policy reflects lessons learned and if necessary changes are made to reduce risk to clients or staff
  • To liaise with all regulatory bodies to ensure their requirements are implemented, monitored and maintained
  • To lead and broker all business development in negotiating with local purchasers to secure appropriate funding for residents and actively participate in increasing admissions or managing a floating bed state as appropriate, or agreed with the Director of Care
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework and committed to providing outstanding care in line with regulatory and commissioned expectations, this includes timely reporting and data capture provided to all relevant regulatory bodies
Compliance and Best Practice

  • Work towards full digitisation and removal of paper record keeping across the business
  • To use technology effectively to monitor and understand KPIs, to manage day to day service delivery and to support and enhance your role
  • To work closely with professional colleagues to develop , agree, monitor and effectively manage your service budgets and report on progress
  • To ensure that people using the service receive support in line with agreed plans and expectations
  • To provide safe systems of work within all areas of responsibility in accordance with the company's health and safety policies and procedures. Ideally digitised.
  • Coordinate the assessment, trialstay and admission of potential, new or respitecare residents, including arrangements for visits. Confirm the appropriateness and authorise all admissions.
  • Ensure the social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of residents are assessed and reviewed regularly, and opportunities and assistance are provided for all residents to follow their preferred interests, maintain social relationships and partake in an individualised and collective programme of activities.
  • Ensure appropriate care plans are devised, implemented and reviewed for all residents and confidentiality guidelines are followed.
  • Respect residents' rights to privacy, dignity and choice.
  • Ensure residents are enabled and empowered to participate fully in decisionmaking as appropriate. This will involve you maintaining direct personal contact with residents.
  • Take overall responsibility for the control, administration and keyholding of medication.
  • Ensure the preparation, cooking and serving of food that meets the required standards and that menus are planned which are appropriate for the preferences and dietary needs of older residents.
Resources Management

  • Working closely with other departmental managers and the Director of Finance and
  • Resources to ensure that cost data is current and that benchmarks are in place to develop and grow the business by actively encouraging a proactive and strategic business development attitude with all levels of employees
  • Works closely with supporting agencies and contractors to ensure the needs of British Home are consistently met when commercial relationships are in place. This might include business functions such as catering or cleaning.
  • To deliver service provision to agreed KPIs
  • Be responsible for the ongoing review implementation of the Quality Assurance programme and maintenance of internal Quality Assurance audits.
General

To deputise for the Director of Care as required

To undertake any other duties as requested, including on call.


There will be a requirement to travel to other locations for the purpose of meetings, assessments or training relevant to your job.
