The Opportunity
The AV Senior Programmer/Planner is responsible for dealing with 3rd line technical support functions for this University's ICT Services.

You will be responsible for troubleshooting problems, solving issues and being the technical escalation point on the groundregarding any unresolved calls whilst keeping all parties informed and monitoring OLAs SLAs.

This position assists staff and students with technical support of Audio Visual (AV) and related technologies. Support includes installation, testing and configuring AV systems.

The AV Senior Programmer/Planner will provide support to over 1500 staff covering7 sites and 300 teaching rooms across the different campuses.

Common support problems dealt with include hardware problems with control system errors, configuration problems with AMX and EXTRON systems.

They will be responsible for the day to day technicalactivities and acting as the face of ICT when visiting customers to ensure their issues are successfully resolved.

This role includes installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading, and resolving AV hardware and software issues. The individual will be providing hardware and software support for peripherals with thorough knowledge of the control programming systems.

You must be well skilled in planning and executing large scale AV project for installation of teaching equipment in line with Prince2 methodology.

The AV Senior Programmer/Planner will have deep knowledge and experience of dealing with AV issues such as, projectors, touchscreen control panels, interactive white boards, smart software, visualizers, speakers, microphone systems, amps, lecture capture andother peripherals.

This role will also require manual handling and comprehensive health and safety knowledge.

You will be a strong team player and have the ability to complete tickets quickly within published service levels (SLA).

It is critical you have excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicatetechnical terms to non
- technical people. You must have the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities effectively in a large HE environment.
Based in Luton, the position offers a competitive salary doe £35k -£42k plus benefits.

Your skills and experience

University degree in the field of computer science, information sciences, or related field and/or substantial experience equivalent work experience in a similar Audio Visual role.

ITIL v3 foundation.
Prince2 foundation
AMX and Extron certification


Experience:


  • Previous substantial experience in an AV Support experience in an educational environment.
  • AMX or Extron or Crestron programming experience.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience of room management software implementation e.g. (roomview, rms)
  • Experience of Incident and Change Management.
  • Project management experience regarding AV refresh for large scale teaching rooms (in line with Prince 2).
  • Experience of working with AV integrators and manufacturers.
  • Experience with conferencing technologies, lecture capture and digital signage.
  • Experience of working with hardware platforms like Mac, laptops, windows pc.
  • Experience of schematic drawings for AV installations.
  • Rack build and commission experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on a Service Desk management platform
  • Experience of creating High value tenders for projects AV/IT equipment through the procurement vehicles of ITQ mini competitions.
  • Experience of creating training documentation and holding training sessions for staff.
  • Experience of working with Schoms membership group and LTSMG working group
  • Welldeveloped troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Able to understand and assist in the specification of infrastructure solutions and architectures.
  • Possess the skills and competencies required to work with mission critical systems; understanding risk and its mitigation, careful planning and clear and accurate documentation skills.
  • Able to communicate and liaise effectively with staff and customers at all levels.
