Are you a Senior Buyer? Do you have 3+ years' experience working in a purchasing role? If so, our client is one of the UKs' largest steel stockholders and are recruiting for a senior buyer. The role will involveassisting with the sourcing and purchasing of high-quality steel at the most competitive prices to enable the Company to operate successfully and efficiently, whilst being an integral part of the Purchasing department.

Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Implementing procurement/purchasing strategy and policies in line with Purchasing Director
  • Managing supplier performance on quality, cost and delivery requirements, resolving process and complexity problems with the external supplier chain and a resolution in a timely manner
  • Ensuring stock levels are maintained to support business production and supply requirements
  • Conducting research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best cost, delivery schedules and quality
  • Liaising between key suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers where appropriate, building effective relationships
  • Forecasting price trends and their impact on future activities. Prepare market analysis and possible growth whilst forecasting upcoming demand
  • Negotiating and agreeing contracts and monitoring their progress checking the quality KPI ́s of service provided
  • Evaluating bids and making recommendations based on cost, commercial and technical factors
  • Developing new steel suppliers as required, exploring supply market opportunities
  • Conducting steel analysis with the Purchasing Director, driving cost improvement and innovative supply solutions
  • Delivering against aggressive targets for the Purchasing department to support organisational growth
  • Implement, monitoring and define actions plans, based upon the purchase report and other KPIs (e.g. Gross Margin, Suppliers Evaluation)
  • Continually develop expertise to support business growth and new projects (training, visit to suppliers etc)

Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer will require the following experience/skills/qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience in purchasing/procurement.
  • Experience in the steel industry is desirable and an advantage but not necessary.
