Foundation for International Educationis an international educational organisation working in partnership with universities and colleges in the US to provide immersive study abroad programs for undergraduate students in London, Dublin, and Amman.

FIE is currently seeking qualified, resourceful and confident applicants for the following full-time, permanent position.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Student Life will be assisting and supporting the Director of Student Life in the day to day management and running of the Student Life Office, deputising for them in their absence.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for developing, organising and executing FIE's co-curricular programming.


Role Purpose

  • Assist the Director of Student Life in the day to day management and running of the Student Life Office
  • Deputise for the Director of Student Life in their absence
  • Develop, organise and execute FIE's cocurricular programming, utilising London and beyond as a learning laboratory

Areas of responsibility
1- Work closely with the Academics team to review course syllabi and maintain,
manage and develop FIE's co-curricular programming (i.e. events, trips, tours and

guest presenters) by:

  • Ensuring that FIE's core values and mission are developed and embedded within the co‐curricular programme
  • Liaising with US Program Administrators, visiting faculty and FIE faculty to plan and deliver cocurriculars that support the range of academic courses on offer. A tracking system to monitor cocurricular activities will be comanaged by the Assistant Director of Student Life and the Academic Team
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with third party service organisations contracted for co‐curricular and extra‐curricular programming
2- Supervise, mentor and assist the Student Life Coordinator in devising and
implementing all aspects of pre-departure, orientation and extra-curricular
programming

3- Manage and maintain accurate financial records from the Student Life Office
budget on a timely basis and provide necessary receipts and documentation to
the Chief Finance Officer

4- Oversee and develop Student Life admin and communications, including material
and documents for the FIE website, databases and social media

5- Maintain and grow the Student Life Office as a reference/resource centre,
enabling students to gain assistance as required (open door policy)

6- Be familiar with FIE policies and procedures related to emergencies and
implement them when required, monitoring and reporting all situations to the
appropriate person(s)

7- Advise students on matters of personal concern, including medical or emotional,
within his/her capability, and if necessary, refer them to the appropriate resource

8- Participate, when required, in the referral of disciplinary matters

9- Ensure all relevant publications, materials, subscriptions and memberships are up to date

10- Promote and develop student charity fundraising, sustainability, green and other
initiatives

11- Maintain a strong working relationship with the FIE Admin, Facilities, IT,
Experiential Education, Finance, Residence Life, and Academic Team as well as US
Partner Institutions, Administrators, Visiting Faculty, FIE Faculty, Guides, Venues
and other Agents

12- Assist with all aspects of programme delivery as directed


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills with a great attention to detail
  • Substantial experience working with undergraduate students and/or in a peoplecentered role
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, and an ability to engage effectively with different groups of stakeholders
  • High level of IT competency, with a knowledge of the MS Office package, databases and social media
  • Ability to develop and maintain high standards of service provision
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, priorities their workload, and meet deadlines in a team setting
  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organisation
  • Ability to self‐assess and reflect on performance
  • Capacity for innovation, resourcefulness, creativity at work
  • A broad knowledge of London and England as an educational and social source
  • Knowledge of the US and its people

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Previous personal experience of having studied and/or worked abroad
  • An understanding of the international education sector, and preferably with some knowledge of the US Higher Education system
  • Experience working with international students
  • Strength in presenting in front of large groups
