Our client is looking for a Manufacturing - Engineering Manager/Design Engineer to join their team in Nursling, Southampton.

Manufacturing - Engineering Manager/Design Engineer Role:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for all design and engineering projects working within the BS EN1090 framework and ensuring the production department is running smoothly and to high-quality standards.


You will plan, manage, implement, and monitor all production KPI's, processes, safety measures, and promote and instil a positive and high-quality culture within the workplace.


As the sole Engineer this is a broad and challenging position responsible for the entire manufacturing side of the business.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director you will need to show strong leadership qualities, be accountable and be able to hitthe ground running in a small but growing business where you can really make a difference.

This is an ideal opportunity for a newly qualified Chartered Engineer wanting to make their mark and deliver projects from initial concept design through to installation.

You must be willing and able to be practical and hands-on in the factory and on site occasionally.


Key responsibilities of the role:


Design Engineer

  • CAD: 2D and 3D modelling using various software
  • Produce engineering drawings for manufacture
  • Responsible for leading the prototyping/test building of new dome products
  • Responsible for the drawing register, document control and design procedures
  • Technical sales support for quotations/CAD concepts and technical site visits
  • Drive continuous improvement to product design and build processes
  • Source and negotiate with new suppliers to strengthen supplier resilience and reduce costs
  • Manage external suppliers welding coordinator and structural engineer for project sign offs

Production & Quality Management

  • Work with Factory/Site Team leader to prioritise and manage production, site installations and spares/repairs processes
  • Ensure all assembled components are made to high quality standards
  • Set quality standards and procedures for factory and monitor KPIs quarterly
  • Recruitment, Line Management & training for direct reports
  • Promote and instil company values and positive culture
  • Implement and manage of Stock Control policy and procedures
  • Ensure H&S adhered to in the factory and on installations/site
  • Work with team to achieve accreditation ISO9001 and maintain BS EN1090 standards
  • Implement and Manage the Quality Management System

Manufacturing - Engineering Manager/Design Engineer Requirements:

  • Relevant Degree qualified
  • eg Mechanical or Structural Engineering
  • Ideally relevant Chartered Status
  • Strong technical knowledge and implementation of design for manufacture.
  • Production Management experience
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, EN1090 or AS 9100
  • Current 3D CAD skills
  • Experience of Project Management and meeting fixed deadlines
  • Document control and revision control
  • Be strategic and commercially aware
  • Be organised with the ability to thrive under pressure
  • Have excellent attention to detail and problemsolving abilities
  • Full UK Driving license
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK

Desirable experience

  • Fork lift licence
  • Working knowledge of various tools
  • QA and compliance knowledge
  • Experience of LEAN manufacturing principles

Renumeration Salary:
up to £45,000. FT following 6mth probation


Benefits: 22 days holiday plus bank holidays, auto enrol pension and free parking


Working hours:
Office based: Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Friday, 8:30am to 2:00pm or as required by the needs of the company. Site work occasionally.
