JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:

CARE ASSISTANT

RESPONSIBLE TO:

MANAGER

REPORTS TO:

NOMINATED SENIOR CARER

QUALIFICATIONS:
NVQ 2 IN SOCIAL CARE AND HEALTH DESIRABLE.


AIM:
Participate as a member of a team in maintaining and developing a high

standard of care.


RESPONSIBLITIES
1 Carry out resident care as part of a team under the direction of nominated senior carer.


2 Carry out personal care of residents, by assisting them to get up in the morning and with going to bed, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing and toileting, promoting their dignity, choice, fulfilment, respect, privacy and rights at all times.

3 Ensure that changes in resident's conditions are reported to nominated senior carer and recorded in residents care plan.


4 In conjunction with other members of staff ensure that good communication with residents, relatives and other visitors is maintained.

5 Assist in the maintenance of stock levels as required.

6 To carry out duties in such a way as to ensure the economical and safe use of resources.


7 To promote the spiritual, mental and physical well-being of residents by talking to and listening to them, assisting them with activities such as reading, writing, taking them out, and making them aware of the programme of activities for residents.

8 Undertake mandatory training and other training as appropriate.

9 Attend meetings as appropriate. It is expected that staff will attend a minimum of 2 staff meetings annually (unpaid)

10 Be aware of emergency procedures, including fire precautions and drill.


11 To ensure that call bells are positioned within easy reach of every resident and are answered as quickly as possible, answer the door and the telephone.


12 To adopt a neat, clean and tidy appearance at all times and wear the appropriate uniform, and name badge as supplied by the Home.

13 To serve meals to residents ensuring choice of suitable and nutritious food and hydration, in sufficient quantities to meet the residents needs, adhering strenuously to Food Hygiene

regulations.

14 Support, residents where necessary, for the purposes of enabling residents, to eat and drink

sufficient amounts for their needs.

15 After meals clear tables and transport crockery etc to kitchen for kitchen staff to put

through dish washer.

16 To provide drinks for residents to high levels of hydration and to be within easy reach of

residents.

17 To help residents choose from the menu, assist them with eating and keep diet charts where necessary. Report comments on food and requests for particular dishes to Cook/Manager.

18 To take care of the residents clothing, ensuring the correct collection, distribution and

return of all laundered items.

19 To make and change beds, keep residents bedroom and eu-suites clean and tidy at all times.

20 To carry out all duties in a safe manner having regard to Health and Safety of self,

Colleagues, residents and visitors to the Home.

21 Maintain resident's confidentiality at all times.

22 To go as escort with resident's to attend Hospital appointments etc, as and when required.

23 Report any changes in resident's condition to nominated senior on duty.


24 Record resident's progress etc on a daily basis in their care plans, update care plans on a monthly basis or before if required.

25 You will be required to attend all Annual Mandatory Training e.g. Health & Safety, Manual Handling, First Aid, Fire Lecture, Infection Control, and Basic Food Hygiene.

26 To perform other duties not listed, from time to time as directed.

27 Must be flexible work weekends and week days and cover A/L and sickness.


This list is not exhaustive, but other duties may be required to be undertaken at the request of the Person in Charge.
