UKHarvest is a not-for-profit perishable food rescue operation and education charity, eliminating hunger and food waste by:

We provide much-needed assistance to charities and vulnerable people, by collecting surplus food from all types of food providers, delivering it directly to charities.

We help nurture those most food insecure, to live well, age well and to help combat social isolation, through our education on reducing food waste and eating healthily.

Salary is based on FTE. This will be pro rata on part-time hours of hours per week.


JOB BACKGROUND:

The Communications Co-ordinator is a key member of the UKHarvest structure within the UKHarvest South Regional team. Working with a diverse range of stakeholders the post holder will have ownership of marketing and communications. They will help raise the public profile of UKHarvest, building awareness and sharing the impact of our work.

The role will require excellent communication skills, great team work, organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences including local communities, beneficiaries, funders, supporters, local media and partners.


Main Objectives:


Leading on communications, the post holder will:

  • Create and execute short, mid and long-term communication plans to raise UKHarvest's profile within regional and national media
  • Enhance stakeholder relationships through proactive engagement and communication requirements via a variety of channels as appropriate
  • Represent and promote UKHarvest online and in person, at networking events, seminars, conferences and in the media
  • Identify and develop communication and marketing opportunities for the organisation, with support from the wider team
  • Uphold professional best practice and compliance across the department, meeting digital accessibility standards, fundraising regulator guidelines, and GDPR

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:


  • Development and implementation of communications, external and within the organisation, across channels including press, website, social media, printed collateral and eshots
  • Proactive in identifying, developing and promoting impact stories from across the organisations and our beneficiaries through multimedia content
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with external organisations, including media agencies, donors and recipients to maximize opportunities for sharing the impact of UKHarvest's work
  • Write copy and source imagery for events, documents and marketing collateral, adapting language and tone of voice for different audiences
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate work to ensure high quality communication (including verbal and written reports) to and between colleagues, partners, funders and stakeholders
  • Undertake project management as required with responsibility of campaign budgets
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure all communications and marketing opportunities are maximised and that the requirements of the overall organisation and funding bodies, where necessary, are met.
  • Support the design creation of communication collateral, adhering to brand and accessibility guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining and updating website, social media and other digital platforms including use of our CMS, CRMs, Google Ad Grants and other digital software.
  • Support other marketing, PR and fundraising campaigns and initiatives as required.

  • Undertake any other related responsibilities appropriately with the evolving objectives of the post and the evolution of the organisation, as may reasonably be requested by the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Ensure the effective implementation of and adherence to, UKHarvest's Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Participate in UKHarvest's Performance Management and Appraisal process, and agree short, medium
- and long-term goals with your manager, for communications, across all channels, business growth for food donors and recipient organisations.

  • Identify learning and development needs of yourself with your line manager and evaluate to demonstrate needs have been met.
  • Share best practice and achievements, and actively seek opportunities to present outcomes and case studies.
  • Contribute to the learning of others across the organisation by sharing knowledge and skills both informally and formally by participating in UKHarvest's management team meetings.
