As Health and Safety Manager, you are responsible for the management, continuous improvement, and documentation of all the safety, health, welfare, and wellbeing of staff and related third parties to ensure that the Company complies with its statutory obligations.

You will be constantly seeking new ways of improving the current H&S system, with a view to taking this to the next level and going beyond compliance, in line with industry best practice.

Systems and Policies

  • Maintenance of the health and safety management system including ISO accreditations, insurance, SSIP and any other such accreditations, including audits
  • Maintain full certification to ISO45001 and similar standards, and all other relevant and required accreditations, liaising with certification bodies/external auditors.
  • Ensure that company policies related to H&S are periodically reviewed and ensure that they remain in accord with legislation and the requirements of relevant standards.
  • Ensure the organisation has an effective risk assessment programme and relevant risk assessments are carried out and documented including for young workers.
  • Effective management of all checklists and internal audits in every area of operations, including maintaining a regular audit schedule

Communication

  • Liaise with other Company departments including operations, HR, sales, and finance to communicate audit results, outcomes, and recommendations as a driver for change and improvement.
  • Support sales teams in tender responses in showcasing our best practice as a company.
  • Work closely with Operational staff as a team to improve overall performance and the Health and Safety culture, including driving changes at grassroots level
  • Liaise with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) or Local Authority, as required.
  • Working with all departments at all locations, including regular visits, to ensure the standard is upheld across the business

Planning and Organising

  • Build on existing frameworks to make CMT Group a market leader in health and safety, with best practice and creative/new innovations and ideas to continually improve our performance and raise skill levels across the business.
  • Improve CMT's performance on staff wellbeing and health, including mental health.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions identified in response to inspections, incident investigations and internal and external audits.
  • Implement and maintain an effective internal auditing regime for health and safety.

Reporting

  • Support Senior Management in the formulation of Company Policy, Objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) in relation to Health and Safety Performance.
  • Communicate KPIs to relevant Company departments and assist in measuring outcomes.
  • Organise regular H&S Management Review Meetings and reports.

Person Specification:


  • Must have at least 2 years' experience as Health and Safety Manager, preferably within manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Must have hold a full UK driving licence and be flexible to travel to our other locations.
  • Trustworthy to work autonomously.
  • Ability to solve complex problems under pressure and use initiative to promptly make informed decisions.
