Key Responsibilities

  • Support and deliver the strategy for behaviour modelling, ensuring sophistication is in line with or better than best practice in the market
  • Take a lead role in the scoping, development, implementation and maintenance of behaviour models for pricing, utilising machine learning, Radar and other software tools
  • Prepare data for modelling, ensuring quality standards are met, data is enriched, reconciled and well understood
  • Create models for price elasticity, market premium, customer behaviour and other factors that drive effective price positioning and build an understanding of these dynamics across the team
  • Identify areas of commonality and areas of necessary difference between portfolios, tailoring models to individual distribution channels where appropriate
  • Deploy models into Radar, for use in pricing optimisation
  • Ensure models are refreshed frequently, using model performance KPIs to determine refresh requirements, deploying model changes in Radar in line with agreed timelines
  • Regularly collaborate with the wider team, sharing insights from model refreshes and sharing knowledge across the team
  • Ensure customer impact is considered at all stages of the modelling process, ensuring use of customer data is fair, ethical and well governed
  • Support the wider business on new initiatives, process reengineering and strategy development
Key skills and experience

  • An actuarial qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in some of the following predictive modelling techniques e.g. Logistic regression, Log-Gamma GLMs, GBMs, Elastic Net GLMs, GAMs, Decision Trees, Random Forests and Neural networks.
  • Modelling experience, preferably in personal lines insurance
  • Strong coding skills with Python, SQL, SAS, using best software development practice such as code versioning, code reviews, unit testing, documentation
  • Strong data and analytical skills, working with large volumes of complex data
  • Experience with Machine Learning platforms, Emblem to create and refresh risk/behaviour models
  • Experience using Radar for model implementation in pricing
  • Ability to communicate finding to technical and nontechnical audiences and influence stakeholders
Strong problem solving skills and business acumen. Sound theoretical and practical understanding of personal lines underwriting
