This varied communications role will see you using your all round communications skills but with a particular focus on generating social media content and delivering internal communications and staff engagement through the hospital's traditional and digital channels.

You'll be a competent writer, a creative, adaptable thinker and possess a consistent can-do attitude.


It's a challenging but rewarding environment where your skills and knowledge can have a direct influence on improving patient care and staff experience.

Your specialist communications knowledge, creative abilities and organisational skills will be complemented by excellent personal communication skills. You will also be comfortable working with, and advising, colleagues from ward to board, as well as external partners.


You will need to have proven experience of success in communications and staff engagement and will be able to work independently and manage a busy schedule of competing priorities.

  • To act as a key point of contactfor online, electronic and telephone enquiries into the communications team and handle enquiries in a timely and effective way.
  • Providing specialist communications knowledge, support and advice for trust staff and committees including developing, implementing and evaluating communications and marketing campaigns, writing editing and proofreading complex publications and production of effective communications materials. Commissioning value for money suppliers, seeing projects through production and distribution.
  • Developing and maintaining key relationshipswithin the trust and with other partner organisations to achieve delivery
  • Helping to provide delivery of information serviceswithin the trust such as writing and producing staff weekly bulletin, producing engaging presentations for staff events
  • Monitoring, creating, scheduling and evaluating social media contentto maintain engaging, informative and approachable corporate social media accounts.
  • Maintenance of accurate information systemsfor good communications e.g. databases, contacts, noticeboards
  • Communications preparation and production activitiessuch as researching for publicity & issues, writing, proofing, taking photographs, filming and editing
  • Managing and liaison with suppliers for good delivery
  • Undertaking basic desktop publishing work and to advise on external procurement of design and print where appropriate
  • Managing and planning effective staff engagement events(internal and external) with evaluation. Listening to internal audiences and ensure we provide timely information to different groupings through a range of Trust communications channels. The role will look to develop engagement events, as well as ensuring outputs in line with organisational targets.
- responding to press enquiries as occasionally required - briefing journalists on often complex and sensitive issues

  • Patient Communicationsdeveloping a range of information to communicate with patients as appropriate about George Eliot for delivery in a range of settings such as website, social media, leaflets and marketing materials.
  • Editorial /writing skills
- this role requires a strong writer with attention to detail but who can also deliver a range of writing styles for staff communications, presentations, online (website), social media, feature writing, video storyboards and of course translating what can be very technical language into something that anyone can understand.
