This is a fantastic opportunity for x4 ambitious apprentices wanting to embark on a career within accounts and finance and join one of the UK's most recognised engineering and railway companies in the heart of Manchester.

They specialise in the maintenance and development of Britain's rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings and many key stations.

With new world-class stations being built, they are involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures that this country has ever seen.


This company has a fantastic track record for developing and investing in a number of apprentices in the past; all of which have secured permanent positions at the company.

You will be well trained and supported throughout your apprenticeship and even have access to some fantastic perks, such as 75% off of your rail costs


They are now recruiting x4 Finance Apprentices to join their Accounting Services team to complete a 33 month AAT apprenticeship programme, which includes the level 3 and 4 AAT programmes.

This role is an entry level scheme designed as an alternative route to University.

You will receive training (in the classroom as well as while working) to become a chartered accountant, progressing to CIMA, ACCA or ACA.

Overview of Apprenticeship Role and Duties


As a finance apprentice and a key member of the finance team, the role will involve liaising with people from all departments and at all levels.

As a Finance professional, you'll inform multi-million pound decisions and directly influence the development, growth and operation of their railway.


Overview of duties:

  • Assist with periodic financial reports
  • Post journals and other key financial inputs
  • Assist the business in updating project information on the Network Rail key systems
  • Provide support with ad hoc reporting as requested by the business
  • Undertake ad hoc finance assistance based on queries received
  • Support with achieving the team key metrics


There will be an option to work from home for part of the working week, with the rest of the time to be in the office.

Skills and Experience


You will be expected to have achieved Five GCSE grades - 9 with grade 4 in English and Maths or equivalent and be predicted/achieved Two A-Levels grades A-C or BTEC equivalent at grade Merit or above.

In addition to the above, you will need to be confident with a pro-active attitude and excellent communication skills.

You should have good attention to detail and be highly organised with the ability to manage activities within agreed timelines as well as balancing work and exams.

Having a strong business acumen and an aptitude for numbers is also advantageous coupled with good ICT skills (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word etc.)


Ideally, they want to recruit someone who has a genuine interest in accounting and commitment to progress on to Professional qualifications, such as CIMA to become a chartered accountant.


You will receive an AAT Level 3 & 4 qualification.
