The Job:


A leading cancer centre is the south of England is looking for a Consultant in Clinical Oncology to join the Gynae multidisciplinary team and provide specialist clinical oncology expertise in SACT and RT.

The secondary tumour site is flexible, and you will have the option to deliver or receive training in Brachytherapy. You will be supported during an induction period and receive guidance to sign off competencies for CESR.

It will be a standard 10PA - 40-hour p/w job plan, with an additional 0.25 PA - 1 hour p/w on-call (telephone advice).

You can expect the following duties;

  • Planning RT and prescribing SACT
  • Delivering Brachytherapy in a theatre setting (optional)
  • Supporting the Acute Oncology Service
  • Conducting new, follow up and on treatment review outpatient clinics
  • Attending relevant MDT
  • Supervising inpatient care
  • Participating in Peer review meetings
  • Engaging with the recruitment and running of clinical trials
  • Providing telephonic advice in oncall rota
  • Supporting professional activities (SPA) and Continuing Professional Development

Cancer Centre:


The Trust is home to a stand-alone Cancer Centre which offers comprehensive cancer services to a large population, offering multidisciplinary clinics for all major tumour sites.

You will be working alongside a friendly team of medical and clinical oncologists, surgeons, radiotherapy physics, clinical nurse specialists and the cancer services management.

There is a bespoke Haematology and Oncology ward, a Teenage Young Adult Unit and a purpose build centre for outpatient cancer care with an adjacent Oncology pharmacy.

The radiotherapy facilities include;

  • 2 widebore CT scanners (incl. 4D capability)
  • 6 Elekta multimodality linear accelerators with portal imaging and multileaf collimation (incl. Exac Trac (Brain Lab) and Hexa POD (Elekta) couches for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
  • Brachytherapy service with microselectron allowing conformal interstitial brachytherapy and iodine seed and high dose rate brachytherapy
  • A Mobetron (IntraOp) intraoperative mobile electron unit

The Requirements:


  • Full GMC Registration (or invitation to GMC ID check) essential
  • Full MRCP (UK) or FRCR (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification
  • Ability to work independently at consultant level within Clinical Oncology
