Part Time Copy Editor (21 hours per week)

Clifton, Bristol (hybrid role, mostly working from home but should live locally to Bristol)

FTE Salary £28, 702 rising annually to £32,072 per annum

The Role:


You will be responsible for copy editing and managing the production process of the quarterly digest publication within a specialist health sector.

You will join a small team of dedicated individuals working to provide high-quality evidence-based information.


The job will involve working closely with the professional editor to prepare and refine content and plan the forward content of the Digest.

You will take the original material/copy and make ready for publication, ensuring material for the Digest is clear, consistent, and credible, grammatically correct and accessible.


Main responsibilities:

  • Production associated brochures/publications
  • Agreeing production related tasks and deadlines with Editor
  • Liaising with print house, Editor and design manager to provide production schedule for the year.
  • Maintaining the house style and referencing guides in liaison with the team.
  • Copyediting articles in line with publication format and house style, including text, images and figures.
  • Arranging and collating reference checking with the team.
  • Coordinating author approval of page proofs, and collating author amends.
  • Producing a marked up copy in Microsoft Word and coordinating handover with the design manager.
  • Coordinating digital proofreading of all page proofs in Adobe PDF
  • Informing authors about publication dates and copyright restrictions and arranging for printed and digital copies to be sent.
  • Monitoring website article submissions and liaising with the Editor or responding to authors as required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Data Protection legislation.

Skills and Experience required:


  • Degree in any discipline, or equivalent.
  • Concentration, accuracy and great attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision, selfmotivated and ability to multitask.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Good teamworking skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat skills.
  • Excellent written English.
  • Good communication skills both inside and outside the organisation.

Nice to have experience:


  • Experience of working with health information.
  • Editorial experience.
  • Publishing experience.
  • Knowledge of copyright issues.
  • Member of SfEP (Society of Editors and proofreaders) or equivalent.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in publishing.
