We are offering a 1 year fixed term contract for
Software Developers of any grade for PaM Informatics, an informatics support team in the Parasites and Microbes programme.

This can be a great
Secondment opportunity for anyone internal.


About the Role:


You will help us deliver Monocle: a data sharing platform used by our scientists and collaborators all over the world.

The position involves a mix of front-end and back-end development in Python and Javascript.


You will be involved with the designing, implementing and supporting software systems for the management and analysis of large genomic datasets.

You will work with other members of the team to understand scientific software requirements and ensure it fits into existing pathogen informatics systems.


About You:

You are familiar with modern practices such as design patterns, SCRUM and CI/CD. You enjoy working with people and guiding colleagues in their professional development. You will be exposed to new and uncommon technologies, such as Svelte, CouchDb, and Kubernetes.


Most importantly, you are motivated to support our science and make a difference in the fight on infectious diseases to improve global health.


About Us:

PaM Informatics embraces agile methods and promotes open source software development.

In close collaboration with the scientists in the programme, we develop workflows and platforms for the processing, tracking and sharing of large volumes of genomic data related to infectious diseases, such as meningitis or pneumonia.


We also support the scientists by developing and deploying software and services that advance their research, and provide direct informatics advice.

As a dynamic team we share all elements of our work, so you would be involved in a variety of different projects, with a focus on Monocle.


Essential Technical Skills:


  • A degree in computer science or a related discipline (or equivalent industrial experience)
  • Experience developing software
  • Strong interest in developing new concepts for storing and sharing data Programming experience in at least one programming language, preferably Python or Javascript
  • Knowledge and experience of UNIX system
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Selfmotivated and proactive with ability to manage own workload effectively Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Other Information

Hybrid Working:

We have adopted a hybrid working model to allow for flexibility between office and remote working. We can discuss this further with you at interview stage.


Salary range
(Dependant on skills and experience):

Grade 1 Principal Software Developer £58,549 to £68,000 G1 role profile


Grade 2 Senior Software Developer £47,643 to £56,000 G2 role profile


Grade 3 Software Developer £36,379 to £42,000 G3 role profile


Closing Date:3rd December 2023


Contract length: 12 months fixed term contract (Externally funded)
