The Company


Our client are a leading Tier 1 Main contractor who work both nationally and internationally and have an annual turnover in excess of £1b.

Operating in over 15 countries worldwide working on projects valued from £1m - £1b and in a variety of sectors including commercial, industrial, residential & retail.


Purpose of the Role
The Senior Planner will play a key role in the delivery of projects across logistics, residential and commercial sectors.

Reporting to the Head of Planning, the Senior Planner will lead the preparation, monitoring and reporting of programmes (including their re-baselining where required), working closely with the project team and sub-contractors to ensure understanding and commitment to the plan.

Works will include the management of programmes in relation to delays and extensions of time, as well as the mentoring of junior planners.

Key outputs will be integrated design, procurement and construction programmes, with supporting information release schedules and phasing plans.


This will be a site-based role, working within the project team, though there will be a requirement to provide input to bid and pre-construction processes.


Key Duties / Responsibilities

  • Development of robust and achievable integrated design, procurement and construction programmes, compliant with project requirements.
  • Interpreting and understanding project/contract documentation.
  • Ability to work on development, bid and delivery planning.
  • Production of tender stage method statements.
  • Preparation of logistics, sequencing and phasing layouts.
  • Contribute to the establishment of tender prelims (incl. scaffolding & temp. electrics enquiries).
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting of progress of all projects under your control, presenting project status to the Head of Planning, key customers and stakeholders.
  • Continually analyse performance, intervening where required to refocus planning efforts in the recovery or redirection of projects (in agreement with Project Manager).
  • Ensure the construction strategy and any recommended improvements are communicated.
  • Ensure records (as built info) are maintained by project teams, allowing the feedback of actual data, driving efficiencies in optimised project delivery and ensuring that lessons learnt are incorporated into future projects.
  • Where necessary, support the demonstration of EOT entitlement, using prospective and retrospective delay techniques, inclusive of report writing.
  • Provide leadership and training, contributing to the progression of Junior Planners and other reporting staff.

Work Experience/Expectations

  • Previous construction industry experience of 10 years', with experience in the delivery of residential and highrise projects is desirable.
  • Experience of working on projects over £40m.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with the JCT form of contract (NEC desirable).
  • Proficient with industry standard programmes/Asta/Primavera etc.
  • Previous experience of coaching staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods and processes with an ability to make recommendations on methods of construction.
  • Have experience managing/shaping and developing high performing organisations.
  • The ability to work cross functionally, with a collaborative and dynamic approach.
  • Have significant experience in projects within a joint venture/delivery environment and able to manage multiple, potentially competing stakeholders with integrity and clarity.

Qualification/Health & Safety Requirements

  • Degree or HNC/HND qualified in a relevant technical discipline.
  • A valid CSCS card is a requirement.
