CMA Recruitment are currently seeking a talented and dedicated Assistant Accountant to join a long-term client of ours.

Our client is a profitable SME company based in Micheldever, Winchester and takes pride in being a market leader in the fast-growing retail industry they operate.


As the Assistant Accountant, you will report directly to the Financial Controller and play a pivotal role in the monitoring of revenue, cash-flow, and profitability.

60% of your role will be to manage the Credit-Control department including line management of the company Credit Controller.

The other 40% of your role will be building and maintaining strong financial and commercial relationships with valued partners as well as analysis, reporting and stock management.


What will the Assistant Accountant role involve?

Credit Control

  • Ownership of the credit control function;
  • Management on 1 direct report
  • PDR's & monthly 121's;
  • Managing aged debt;
  • Setting credit limits;
  • Negotiate payment plans with partners, ensuring adherence to company policies;
  • Collaborate with the Financial Controller to implement credit control strategies and improve debt recovery procedures;
  • Managing revenue cycle including working with logistics to agree invoicing is correct based on Containers/Deliveries;
  • Monthly meeting with MD and Financial Controller to go through Credit Limits>£100k and review problem accounts;
  • Bad debt Analysis;
  • Quarterly incentive credit notes;
  • Reconcile deferred income;
  • Sole credit control cover on Tuesdays;
  • Reconciliation of revenue balance sheet & P&L accounts;
  • Profitability analysis.

Reporting

  • Review loss making orders with support of Customer Service Manager;
  • Send fortnightly reports to Business Development Managers for accounts in their territory with ongoing disputes/issues.

Stock accounting

  • To be an active member of the stock team, ensuring stock is correctly accounted for, valued appropriately and assisting in monitoring stock levels and reordering on a timely basis in a cost effective manner.

Systems

  • Key contact within team for Portal (ordering platform), ensuring requirements are captured and issues resolved;
  • Providing holiday and sickness cover within the finance team;
  • Any other activities related to the financial management of the Company.

Essential skills/experience

  • Credit control and customer communications;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative as well as being a team member and working in a team environment;
  • Problem solver;
  • Ability to work well under pressure, adhere to deadlines whilst maintaining attention to detail;
  • Willingness to work in a cooperative environment;
  • Strong IT and systems skills;
  • Must drive due to office location.

Desired Experience (Not Essential)

  • Part-Qualified CIMA or ACMA accountant;
  • Management experience;
  • NetSuite;
  • Power BI;
  • Intermediate Excel;
  • Working within a small team
