About this role

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to befriend clients and children, who have experienced domestic abuse and are new to Northamptonshire.

Clients will be from our refuges and your role will be to support them in conjunction with the Children Domestic Abuse Specialists.

This will include planning and facilitating group activities for the children and offering one to one support when needed. We are looking for 1 volunteer based at each location (2 in total).

Please note:
You must be available to attend mandatory training on 3rd and 6th July 2023.

Key Tasks:

Tasks may vary due to the person-centred nature of this role.

Typical tasks include one or more of the following:

  • Supporting clients to use local children services and facilities
  • Supporting clients to develop wider social links in the area.
  • Showing clients different amenities in the area.
  • Supporting facilitators with domestic abuse groups for children and parenting.
  • Supporting clients to take their children to appropriate groups
  • Liaising closely with the Children Domestic Abuse Specialists to give handovers where necessary.
  • Facilitating/cofacilitating children group activities or one to one session to enable parents to access support.

What we are looking for

  • Experience working with children or in a childcare setting
  • Be enthusiastic about helping a local charity to support families affected by domestic abuse
  • Be trustworthy and reliable
  • Be calm and creative when engaging with children and young people
  • Have excellent communication and team working skills
  • Have the desire to find out more about the work of NDAS
  • Have flexibility and the willingness to volunteer
  • Keep up to date with the work of NDAS to represent the charity in a professional manner
We would appreciate any time you are able to offer.

If you can commit to regular hours (such as 2-3 hours per week) we would be delighted to discuss ongoing projects that might interest you.

As it takes an amount of time and resource to welcome new volunteers on board, we would appreciate it if you pledged to support us initially for a minimum of 3 months.

What we offer

  • You will be given an induction and any necessary training for this role
  • Children's Domestic Abuse Specialists will help and support you when volunteering
  • You will be able to develop new and existing skills in areas such as supporting children and young people fleeing domestic abuse.
  • You will be working as part of a dedicated and motivated team of volunteers
  • You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of those we support.
  • Volunteers can claim all reasonable and previously agreed expenses (such as for travel or reimbursement for items purchased)

How to apply

  • If you are successful at interview, we will contact you to arrange your induction.
  • You will be issued with an ID badge
  • You will then be ready to start volunteering
This role outline is binding in honour only and is not intended to be legally binding.
