Opportunity


We have a rare opportunity to join the market leading Debt Advisory team, supporting the senior team on client coverage and deal execution.

Although this will be the primary focus of the successful individual, this role will be more widespread across CDA (Capital & Debt Advisory) adding to the team overall resource supporting with financing advisory engagements with a focus on project finance and structured finance arrangements.


We are an extremely hands on and busy team who work on approaching 100 client deals a year which naturally allows for a great opportunity for client exposure with top investments banks.


The person we have in mind for this key position is mathematically literate, inquisitive, has a genuine interest in financial markets and is pro-active in their nature.

They will have a tried and tested ability to express complex financial ideas in a clear and succinct manner, either verbally or in written work output such as strategy papers.


When required, you'll personally execute designated debt advisory procedures and manage teams or parts of teams on engagements, depending on the size of the engagement.


You'll establish, maintain and strengthen internal and external relationships and make sure that delivered client work is of high quality.

As part of this, you'll anticipate and identify risks and escalate issues, as appropriate.


As an influential member of the team, you'll help to create a positive learning culture and will coach and counsel junior team members and help them to develop, including assisting in the regulatory and compliance requirements of the team, both internally (QRM, control files, etc) and with the FCA.


Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Running transactions on a daytoday basis, this involves working closely with funders and other advisors (both EY and nonEY) as well as key company management team contacts.
  • Preparation of key transaction documentation such as information memorandums, management presentations, structuring analysis and various financial models / discussion materials to assist in advisory and debt financing discussions.
  • Targeting, marketing, preparation of proposal materials, client coverage and working as part of the team to develop proposals for new business.
  • Knowledge of debt financing products
  • Spreadsheet modelling
  • Ability to learn quickly

To qualify for the role you will ideally have

  • Good Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Good written English and maths and strong project management skills
  • Experience of operating in a team addressing borrowers/issuers in the debt markets, whether bank, bond, or private experience across multiple products/markets is an advantage. This could be in any capacity, such as advisor, lender, arranger
  • Experience on structuring project finance transactions across Infrastructure and Energy sectors gained by working at a bank or corporate finance houses including accountancy firms.
  • Ability to learn quickly

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Professional ACA or CFA or MBA qualification, although this is not essential
  • Worked on transactions involving Infrastructure Funds
  • People development experience and can effectively supervise, coach and mentor staff
  • The ability to build strong internal relationships within Corporate Finance and across other services, and can participate in business development
