Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release.

We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community.

Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised.

Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners.

Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care.


HMP Rye Hill is a category 'B' training prison situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby in Warwickshire, holding approximately 664 sentenced male adults.


We are now looking for a Christian Chaplain, to join our forward thinking multi-faith team of Faith Advisors, reporting to the Managing Chaplain as we aim to inspire, educate and equip our prisoners and staff through faith, belief and pastoral care.


The Chaplain will provide for the religious care of prisoners and staff in their own tradition, and appropriate pastoral care for all, irrespective of faith or tradition.

The Chaplain will work with colleagues to ensure that the delivery of the specification "Faith and Pastoral Care" and also the broader work of chaplaincy in delivering faith and non-faith based

courses. The Chaplain will engage with, and build contacts with their own faith community towards aiding the resettlement of offenders.

This is a non-operational role with no line management or supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a faith advisor in the establishment providing advice, pastoral care and spiritual welfare to prisoners and staff (in line with the Prison Service Instructions)
  • Be part of the provision of an available and accessible Chaplaincy service at all times
  • Pastoral care of prisoners, including interviewing new Receptions, Discharges and visiting those segregated under prison rules
  • Facilitate and deliver opportunities for worship, study and teaching in accordance with your faith tradition

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Accreditation/Registration:


Anglican - Ordained priest, with formal endorsement in the form of the Licence of the Diocesan Bishop.

Have formal endorsement in the form of the Licence of the Diocesan Bishop.


Free Church - Ordained (or denominationally equivalent) minister of a Free Church denomination /church grouping which is either a member of the Free Churches Group, Churches Together in England or Churches Together in Wales.


Technical Education

  • Must be IT literate

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Ministry

  • Have a proven track record of pastoral care, committed to upholding the dignity and worth of others

You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 3 years.
