JOB OVERVIEW


We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Governance Officer to join our Quality Assurance and Enhancement Office (QAE) team.

In this role, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our academic governance operates effectively and efficiently.

This role will act as the Secretary to the Academic Board and key sub-committees. You will work closely with the Chairs of those boards/committees, board/committee members, and senior colleagues.

Your main responsibilities will include scheduling meetings, ensuring the effective operation of those meetings, and efficiently disseminating information arising from those meetings.


As the expert within our organization on academic governance, you may be asked to work with a number of colleagues across the business to provide advice and guidance on the effective operation of our governance system.

Additionally, you will work with colleagues throughout our network of International Study Centres to provide advice, guidance, and support to ensure the effective running of local academic governance systems.


ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Act as Secretary for Academic Board, Quality Learning and Teaching Committee, Student Experience Committee, Research and Scholarship Committee, Programme Approval and Variation Committee, Entry Requirements Advisory Board and Student Advisory Board.
  • Work with the Chairs of the board and committees to prepare and distribute agenda and meeting papers on a timely basis.
  • Note and record key meeting decisions and circulate on a timely basis to attendees.
  • Ensuring that all actions are reported back to the board/committees ahead of meetings.
  • Draft formal minutes and prepare followup communications as needed.
  • Manage the membership of key academic governance bodies to ensure that, where needed, terms of membership are extended or recruitment to vacant positions is undertaken in good time.
  • Ensure that the key academic governance policies, processes and procedures are kept uptodate and that, where needed revisions to key documentation is approved in good time.
  • Support governance bodies in reviewing the operation and writing reports about their effectiveness if fulfilling their role(s) within the system.
  • Develop and deliver induction and/or refresher training regarding the academic governance system to members of academic governance bodies.
  • Provide practical advice and guidance to internal senior managers on good governance practice in the context of a forprofit, international education organisation.
  • Ensure that all papers and information regarding the operation of the academic governance system are stored appropriately and accessible to those who need them.
  • Coordinate, oversee and produce reports from monitoring submissions considered via correspondence and at monitoring events.
  • Be a source of key advice and guidance for ISCs in all aspects of academic governance to aid them in mitigating and managing the risk associated with ineffective oversight of their academic provision.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven administrative experience in a complex organisation, including support for senior governance or other formal meetings.
  • Understanding of the need for effective governance systems and the requirements of good governance
  • Experience of formal minutetaking.
  • Complex diary management
  • Experience working in the Further or Higher Education sectors (desirable).
  • Experience working within a regulated organisation and meeting the expectations of external stakeholders (desirable)
  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience in governance (desired)
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development.
